About
In 1988, before the Pacific Northwest became home to the coffeehouse boom, Larry and Cherie Challain opened the first Dancing Goats® Coffee Bar in Olympia, WA. A passion for serving great coffee grew into a passion for roasting the world’s finest coffees when they became the owners of Batdorf & Bronson® Coffee Roasters, one of the most well-regarded specialty coffee companies in America. In order to ensure the delivery of fresh roasted coffee to customers across the country, Batdorf & Bronson® opened its Atlanta roastery in 1994. Our coffees are now being served in cafes and fine restaurants around the country in addition to our own locations where the excellent quality of Batdorf & Bronson® coffees combines with knowledge and skilled baristas in delightful settings.

Texas Cannabis Policy Conference
In recent weeks, the regulated marijuana industry has faced a crisis of confidence prompted by lab-approved products found to contain pesticides. Now there’s evidence some marijuana samples submitted for testing contain a mysterious “soup” of dozens of unknown compounds never before found in cannabis. Lab executives told MJBizDaily they believe the compounds are created when hemp-derived cannabinoids are converted to delta-8 and delta-9 THC. Labs do not test for these byproducts; rather, most states require labs to test for various levels of heavy metals, mold and cannabinoids. And how they affect consumers is unknown. “You can’t make one thing without something else being formed as well.” Josh Swider, co-founder and CEO of San Diego-based Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, said that he has screened many delta-8 products created through chemical processes. “You’ll see 60 unknown compounds in there,” he said. “Some of them get identified, but all of them are never found. “That is telling you that you’re now adding other compounds that we never found in cannabis, and now people are smoking it. “It’s a very common thing going on around the country.” Full article - https://lnkd.in/gJsV_aY4

May is Oregon Wine Month and Oregon is home to 23 federally recognized American Viticulture Areas (AVAs). The Willamette Valley, Oregon’s oldest wine region, has two-thirds of the state’s wineries and vineyards and is home to more than 700 wineries. . The Rogue Valley is a sun-drenched, fertile region comprised of three distinct valleys with progressively warmer micro-climates and the region successfully grows both cool- and warm-climate varieties so you can enjoy Rogue Valley wine with everything. . The Walla Walla Valley AVA straddles southeast Washington and northeast Oregon and is hemmed in by the Blue Mountains to the southeast, the Palouse to the north, and the Columbia River westward. . The Umpqua Valley is a result of the collision of three mountain ranges of varying age and structure: the Klamath Mountains, the Coast Range and the Cascades. . The last major region is the Columbia Gorge -- a place of extremes—extremes in climate, scenery, and style of wine. Let's discuss the grape varieties: ' Pinot Noir: Most commonly found in the Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon, Pinot noir represents 59% of Oregon’s planted acres. . Pinot Gris: Most commonly found in the Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon, Pinot gris represents 14% of Oregon’s planted acres. . Chardonnay: Most commonly found in the Willamette Valley and Rogue Valley, Chardonnay represents 7% of Oregon’s planted acres. . Syrah: Most commonly found in the Columbia Valley, Southern Oregon, and Snake River Valley, Syrah represents 4% of Oregon’s planted acres. . Cabernet Sauvignon: Most commonly found in the Columbia Valley, Rogue Valley, and Snake River Valley, Cabernet Sauvignon represents 4% of Oregon’s planted acres. . Riesling: Most commonly found in the Willamette Valley, Columbia Valley, Rogue Valley, and Snake River Valley, Riesling represents 1% of Oregon’s planted acres. . @oregonwineboard @orwinegrowersassociation @wvwines @yamhillcarlton @dundeehills @atozwineworks @adelsheim @youngberg_hill @troonwines @leftcoastwine

In the burgeoning California cannabis scene, consumers and investors alike are digging deeper into the botany of bud, unearthing a host of compounds that contribute to the plant’s unique effects and benefits. One such group of compounds fundamental to the cannabis experience are terpenes, responsible for the distinct aromas and flavors we associate with different strains of cannabis. Interestingly, terpenes go beyond just providing sensory pleasure - they also have potential therapeutic and medicinal benefits. Take, for example, the terpene Myrcene, known for its sedative effects and found abundantly in many Indica strains. Or Limonene, with its citrusy scent, believed to have uplifting and stress-relieving properties. These terpenes, and many others, work in synergy with cannabinoids like THC and CBD in what's known as the “entourage effect”, enhancing the overall benefits of cannabis consumption. From a business perspective, understanding terpenes and their impacts can be crucial for navigating the ever-evolving cannabis market. This understanding can guide the development of new products, inform breeding and cultivation strategies, and offer fresh ways to engage and educate consumers. The burgeoning cannabis industry in California is ripe with opportunities for those willing to delve deeper into the science behind the plant. Companies like Vibe by California are at the forefront, pushing boundaries and demystifying the complexities of cannabis, one terpene at a time. The future of cannabis lies not just in its acceptance, but in its understanding. As we continue to unearth the potentials of terpenes, we're charting new territories in the fields of wellness, pleasure, and economic growth. 👉 Check out Vibe by California, a legal California Cannabis Company, at www.vibebycalifornia.com 👈 🌿 Click Photo to Learn More 👇

Cork Supply, a leading provider of innovative cork closures, is delivering educational events centered around cork harvesting at Cal Poly and UC Davis this month. The rare demonstrations will showcase the sustainability and beneficial uses of cork for the wine industry. 'With cork oaks only eligible for harvest every nine years, these events are truly unique,' said a Cork Supply representative. The last cork harvest at UC Davis took place over 30 years ago. The events aim to engage students and complement classroom learning about cork, a regenerative and biodegradable raw material. Cork oak forests, known as the Montado, are nature-based climate solutions that absorb and store significant volumes of CO2 annually while providing vital habitat for wildlife. Cork Supply's initiatives align with its 'Harvesting for the Future' strategy, focusing on emissions reduction, efficient use of raw materials, and incorporating manufacturing by-products into new products. The company's latest innovation, Legacy, is the only natural cork closure guaranteed for consistent oxygen transmission rate. @corksupply #sustainability #winepackaging #corkclosures #climatesolutions

Other states, other wines We have already discussed the most important wine regions of North America; from New York, Oregon, Washington to California. But wine is made in almost all US states. Let's review the other states and their wines. Cross-border Idaho As we already touched on in Oregon's Cross-Border Wines, Idaho does not have an AVA that is entirely within its own borders. Snake River Valley is partly located in Oregon, but also the other appellation Lewis Clark Valley AVA for wines is partly located in one of the other states, Washington. This is the third appellation in Idaho, after Snake River Valley and Eagle Foothills, and was recognized in 2016. It extends along the courses of the Clearwater and Snake rivers. Of the 124,000 hectares allocated as an appellation, only 40 hectares have been planted. Due to the lower hills of the river area, it is warmer here in the summer. In winter it can go down to -20C, making frost damage a real risk. https://lnkd.in/e4phWBxC

🚨FOOD INDUSTRY NEWS🚨 As of February, at least 165 people were sickened with salmonella infections tied to products from RAW FARM, of Fresno, California. It is the largest reported salmonella outbreak linked to raw milk in the U.S. in the past decade, according to health officials. The disclosure of the outbreak’s size comes as health officials warn the public to avoid unpasteurised milk due to a bird flu virus circulating in U.S. dairy cows. The bird flu, known as Type A H5N1, has been detected in more than 140 U.S. dairy herds, and federal health officials say the virus has been detected in high levels in raw milk. #birdflu #dairyindustry #foodindustry #newsletter #rawmilk

🚨 Call to Action 🚨 CDA | Cannabis Distribution Association, California Cannabis Manufacturers Association, and CCIA have submitted the letter referenced below to Governor Gavin Newsom requesting a veto of AB 1207. This bill's broad restrictions on cannabis branding, specifically banning images of humans, animals, fruits, and vegetables, are unreasonable and draw resources away from addressing genuinely harmful product imaging that’s attractive to children. If signed, this bill will have a significant impact to cannabis businesses across California. We have created a template letter your company can use to join us in asking Governor Newsom to veto AB 1207! https://lnkd.in/gFtK3CmG #cannabis #california

A robust manufacturing sector in Washington & Oregon is their wine industries. Washington & Oregon grow some of the best wine grapes and produce some of the best wines in the nation (world). This should not be a surprise, if you look at the globe and recognize the Pacific Northwest is on the same latitude as some of the best wine regions in the world and has an abundance of water. The BIG DAWG (Appropriate verbiage today with the University of Washington playing for the College Football National Championship) in the region's wine industry is Chateau Ste. Michelle . Chateau Ste. Michelle recently announced it will be pulling back on its grape purchases in the region. On face value, this could cause concern, but it actually creates a robust opportunity, as detailed in the Robb Report ( https://lnkd.in/dhg4BTvD). The pull back should allow vineyards to sell product at enhanced values, smaller wineries to access quality grapes that were previously unavailable, and when appropriate vineyards to transition acreage to different varietals by being released from contractual commitments. I look forward to seeing what boutique and family wineries are able to produce using 2024 harvested grapes. Oliver Kotelnikov, the Director of IBA's Hospitality Industry Transaction Division, & I have served as guest lecturers at the region's viticulture schools related to entrepreneurship as a potential career path. Based on the caliber of the students and the enthusiasm in those programs, we both are confident that wine will continue to be a successful entrepreneurial path and a compliment to a quality meal in Washington & Oregon far into the foreseeable future. Hoping some Washington champagne gets popped tonight in celebration of success on the field.

The California Grape Crush Report for 2023 shows the total volume of wine grapes crushed reached 3.69 million tons, up 8% from 2022. Despite the increase in production, average prices in 2023 were up 9%, with red wine varieties +13% and white wine varieties +6% year-over-year. The annual Crush Report is closely watched by farmland investors and market participants because it's used to inform contract pricing for the following year. Price growth, particularly considering increased yields, was a positive indicator for markets in 2023. Learn more about investing in wine grapes as part of a diversified farmland portfolio.

While Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay may be household names, California is home to over 100 different grape varietals! One such varietal is Charbono, which finds its origins in the Savoie region of France where it is known as Corbeau, or sometimes Charbonneau. The grape is believed to have made its way to California — under the alias of "Barbera" — by way of Italian immigrants in the mid to late 1800s, around the same time as Cabernet and Chardonnay, but that is where the similarity ends. Compared to the nearly 200,000 combined acres of Chardonnay and Cabernet planted in California, Charbono has dwindled to a mere 75 acres! Today, Charbono has become somewhat of a "cult" wine with a small, loyal following and has been staved from extinction by a handful of dedicated farmers, including Peter Heitz of Shypoke Cellars whose 12+ acres make up almost 20% of the world's remaining Charbono vines! On special this week: 2018 Shypoke Cellars Le Corbeau Usually $48, take advantage of 15% off 1-5 bottles ($40.80/BTL) and 25% off 6+ bottles ($36/BTL) for this week only (6/3/24 through 6/9/24). Check out Verde Farms' Founder Dana Ehrlich's tips on cooking the best beef ribs in this Tasting Table article: https://lnkd.in/eKr8D6R5 -REMEMBER BEEF RIBS AREN'T PORK: Verde Farms founder Dana Ehrlich emphasizes the importance of time over tension. "Unlike other cuts of meat, beef ribs have a lot of cartilage and fat, so everything needs to be cooked low and slow — especially as a full rack," he says. "So the connective tissue and tough muscles have time to break down." ... -CHANGE THE HEAT LEVEL DEPENDING ON THE RIB CUT: "Thinly sliced beef ribs can be cooked over high heat like direct flame on a grill," Ehrlich says. "While still delicious, cooking them like this can end up making them tougher than non-rib cuts of meat, such as a ribeye or strip steak." He also emphasizes that you have options with dry vs. wet heat. Steamy air conducts heat much better than dry heat does. ... -CONSIDER OTHER COOKING METHODS: Ribs make perfect barbecue, but you're not bound to cook them that way. BBQ is a lot of work and planning, but sometimes you want something delicious and easy...Ehrlich casts votes on both sides of the question for ceramic. "I like smoking beef short ribs on my Green Egg or braising them in Le Creuset cookware," he says. "What is an inexpensive and tough cut of meat can become fork tender and super flavorful after hours of slow cooking." ... -USE PLENTY OF LIQUID WHEN BRAISING: Beef ribs profit immensely from a warm, wet cooking environment, but even in a covered environment, water can escape...Ehrlich says, "A common mistake when it comes to cooking ribs is when people try to braise them, they don't use enough liquid and they end up burning." #cookingtips #grillingtips #grillingseason #organicbeef #grassfedbeef

📢 Is the THCA and Delta-8 Hype Dead? The future is uncertain with the proposed amendment to the 2024 Farm Bill threatening to make products like THCA and Delta-8 products illegal. But this doesn't mean the end! While "things" get figured out, brands should focus on diversifying their product line (maybe Introducing dope merch), staying compliant with existing regulations, proving to customers that their products are safe, and educating them on potential changes. More importantly, you should avoid producing anything attractive to kids. Did Juul not teach us anything?! 😂 #CannabisIndustry #Hemp #FarmBillAmendement #DTC
