  • Never Alone in the Lion's Den

    Faith-Driven Entrepreneur

Describes my work with co-creating and running the early pitch event and one of several catalysts in the Faith-Driven movement. The emphasis on relationships, trust, and growth are hallmarks for the emerging space. It's often ignored but mostly, underestimated. Grateful to HK for encouraging my personal voice in the post.

  • The Lion's Den Event

Coordinating with several groups, I created a website, base marketing, production, and internal processes. With 14 weeks total fro planning and less than 10 weeks to execute, we produced a sold out event (>200) for the 5 companies presenting and a luncheon of 80 invited guests. Attendance drew from 12+ states and the informal network added 15% to its total size. The 2nd installment will occur in October 2015, with the intent of making this an annual event with attendees from across the…

  • Daniel House 30th Anniversary Reception

This was a joy to cooperate with the Alumni and Advancement departments at my alma mater. I volunteered to develop the initial plans and approach of the event, as well as encourage giving to a scholarship fund for future study at Daniel House from a donor's perspective. This was the largest gathering of this program Samford had ever initiated.

This was the largest gathering of this program Samford had ever initiated.

The concept was to gather former residents of Samford's hallmark study abroad program in London, where the university owns a terraced property, the Daniel House. The property/program was celebrating 30 years this year, and the reception drew from past residents (alumni and faculty). Over a hundred attended of varied ages, backgrounds, and geographies...connected mainly through their shared experience at the Daniel House in the last 4 decades.

  • EverAthletic Experience

Created the concept with several colleagues and friends to produce a unique event for 6 to 13 year olds. I created website, internal processes, coordinated with vendors and event planners, financed the production, and directed the execution of the event itself. This appealed to parents of youth athletes interested in seeing "where their kids were" in athletic development, as well as gain insight from the professional talent we had at open clinics, across 4 athletic areas/sports. 200 adults…

This appealed to parents of youth athletes interested in seeing "where their kids were" in athletic development, as well as gain insight from the professional talent we had at open clinics, across 4 athletic areas/sports. 200 adults and children attended with 5% having driven greater than 80 miles to participate. We have not seen similar event that promoted athletic development to this degree and with this level of professionalism.

The senior elective finance class provided a broad survey into private markets in venture, growth, and buyouts as well as modules on Impact Investing.
Student teams worked on real-company materials to learn, analyze, and present around the topic of the class. We provided feedback and insight, while also inviting experts from around the United States to speak into the day's topic. A the end of term, the student teams presented on their company (with updated materials) to a panel as if they were giving an investment briefing to an investment committee.
Highlights came from strong student feedback, excitement over real-life discussions, guest speakers' dynamic backgrounds, transparent conversations on an often opaque industry, and the opportunity to learn-while-doing.
