#backtobasics #whatisvectordatabase Spent some time today to sit down, read the details of Vector Database Announcement and what Salesforce means when they say 'Magic! You can now get access to all unstructured data in an organised way in your customer profile.' You may have heard this over and over again, 'Data without AI and AI without Data is powerless'. It is the trend and to the point that your ears will bleed AI blood! But once you have wiped it and stuffed your ears with some cotton balls, do take a moment to understand what the words 'Unstructured Data' and 'Vector Database' mean. Unstructured Data means information that is hidden in, **Text Documents**: Emails, Chat transcripts, Text Messages, Word documents, PDFs, and web pages. **Social Media Content**: Posts, comments, tweets, and multimedia. **Multimedia Files**: Images, videos, and audio recordings. **Customer Feedback**: Survey responses, customer reviews, and support tickets. This information could be stored within Salesforce as Files/Attachments and in your databases. They contain beneficial information but if you don't have an intelligent mechanism to dig through it, it's like finding a specific Lego piece in Toybox that contains all Lego, Knex shapes, building blocks, toy cars, scrabble pieces (Sorry if I hurt your OCD!) **Drum Rolls** Enter.... VECTOR DATABASE Now, imagine you have a super smart toy box. This toy box can remember and find your toys, even if they're all jumbled up. It uses special shapes to keep track of everything. When you ask for a toy, it quickly finds the one that looks most like what you want. So, a Vector Database is like this toy box for computers, helping them find and understand all kinds of messy information really fast. And then feeding this to the AI would mean feeding all your Lego pieces into a machine and asking it to pop a finished model out (Okay I am overdoing it now but you get the point?!) And this is why the announcement around GA of Vector Databases from Salesforce is such a big deal. I haven't tried it to tell you how powerful it is, but it is a MASSIVE step in the right direction and Kudos to them.
