Amazon Web Services (AWS) is at war and Andy Jassy has a new consigliere Matt Garman. Amazon.com Inc. has strategically positioned Matt Garman as the new CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), much like a wartime consigliere in the vein of the iconic film "The Godfather." Garman assumes command in a critical era for AWS, marked by intense competition for cloud and AI supremacy. This period follows significant shifts brought about by the pandemic, a new wave of developers, and rapid advancements in generative AI technology. AWS finds itself in the midst of a fierce battleground, not only maintaining its cloud infrastructure leadership but also vying for dominance in the burgeoning AI sector. The one other wildcard in favor of AWS with Garman (besides being a product czar) is that he's very partner friendly which will be a key part of keeping AWS ahead. Enterprises spend more on security but aren’t benefitting from the extra spend. Palo Alto Networks’ customers who buy security across 3 platforms spend more than 40x those that secure just one. Despite those dollars… “Adding incremental point products is not necessarily driving a better security outcome for them.” - Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks The average enterprise uses upwards of 70 security products. Many of these products produce alerts identifying phishing emails or network access issues or odd device behavior. The security operations center (SOC) reviews these alerts. Estimates suggest the typical team receives between 5,000 & 11,000 alerts per day - every day. Worse still, every SOC team is short-staffed. No wonder these teams can’t keep up with the deluge. Fewer than 10% of alerts are ever reviewed. Many security breaches could have been detected earlier with broader coverage. Dropzone provides AI SOC analysts that never sleep. Leveraging the power of LLMs, Dropzone’s analysts collect alerts, fetch relevant information from other systems, and then triage alerts. These agents also inform copilots that empower security analysts to ask questions of their environment leveraging the insight of the AI analysts. Llama 3 70B is already in the top 6 of all LLMs, showcasing better accuracy than much larger, proprietary models. As we observe #EarthDay, I’m proud to share an inspiring blog post by my colleague, Charu Adesnik, Executive Director, Cisco Foundation, highlighting several organizations whose work aligns to Cisco’s corporate environmental sustainability strategy.   Take Jaza Energy, an organization revolutionizing clean energy access in Tanzania and Nigeria with solar hubs, creating sustainable alternatives to kerosene and generators. This not only illuminates thousands of homes but also empowers local communities, particularly women, through economic opportunities.   Another compelling story is about Green Wolf Costa Rica (GWCR). Through education, activation efforts, and the creation of sustainable souvenirs, GWCR transforms beach waste into opportunities while fostering resilience in vulnerable communities. Since 2019, GWCR has removed over 70 tons of beach waste and planted hundreds of trees in collaboration with community and corporate volunteers.   And then there’s Human-I-T. Through innovative solutions and a dedication to digital equity, this organization has made significant strides in connecting students and their households with the technology they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In 2023 alone, Human-I-T distributed 60,000 devices to communities across the United States, trained 5,000 people with digital literacy skills, and diverted 3.4 million pounds of e-waste from landfills.    Incredible. I often talk about the criticality of public/private partnerships, and how – together – we can better address environmental and social issues. These initiatives resonate deeply with our values at Cisco and the Cisco Foundation, as we strive to create a healthier tomorrow.   #EarthDay #Sustainability #SocialImpact #WeAreCisco
