For Canadian National Railways, Andrew acted as project manager and technical lead on a study comparing the fuel economy of twenty-one rail freight movements from West Coast sea ports to inland destinations, for the purpose of identifying the most fuel-efficient ports and routes for rail transportation. As part of this study he constructed and validated a novel fuel economy model to calculate locomotive fuel use, based on detailed GIS data and rail network optimization models.
