Dassault Systèmes
Discover Morphosis Installation - HUMAN @Design in the Age of Experience 2019 by Dassault Systèmes. Morphosis Architects take part in a dynamic and moderated dialogue to discuss the design process and the creative idea behind the Interfaces installation and how it links with Design in the Age of Experience, looking specifically at human. Using case studies, they dicuss the work of Morphosis in the context of the language they are creating, as illustrated in the installation.

Devoted to finding fresh responses to the needs and aspirations of today’s society, the industry leading school of architecture, Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, aimed to train the architects of tomorrow with next-generation tools that overcome traditional barriers to innovation. SCI-Arc faculty member and professional architect Kerenza Harris is using Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud to transform her students’ learning experience through parametric design, mobile application access, team collaboration and hands-on project experience. The platform enables students to create intelligent models that retain their iterative histories and information, allowing seamless progression from an inspired idea to a production ready design.

Almost Architecture: Notes from the Edges

Their projects and pursuits seek to address design and cultural problems — whether pre-existing or projected — through the medium and space of social media.
Each participant leverages inherent qualities of social media’s platforms to broadcast primary objectives within their respective design projects – from cross-cultural exchange and “deleted” metropolitan landscapes (Alessio Grancini and Runze Zhang), to democratizing and demystifying architectural theory (Ryan Scavnicky).
As part of the LAForum’s series, “Out There Doing It,” this event, presented in two parts, explores lessons from the uncharted edges. These efforts might even filter back and influence more established forms of “Doing It.”
Architecture typically happens in the physical world. But, as our infatuation with contemporary communications technology can attest, there exists an equally robust and influential world just beyond our smartphone screens. The ecology of this environment is as structurally and socially complex as is physical reality. Construction is also an enormously time-and-capital-intensive enterprise, and thus forms a prohibitively high barrier to entry.
If “doing” traditionally means designing buildings intended to be physically realized, than this brief challenges both the space of “Out There” and the act of “Doing It.” -
A Conversation with Runze Zhang & Alessio Grancini on their Thesis Project "Games of Deletion"
Anthony George Morey
Thesis Review is a collection of conversations, statements and inquiries into the current state of thesis in academia. Thesis projects give a glimpse into the current state of the education arena while painting a picture for the future of practice.
Each feature will present a contemporary thesis project through the voice of those that constructed it. Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition: A Parametric Analysis

Architects have always pushed the limit, often experimenting with forms and technologies unavailable in their time. In the last 20 years, we experienced a small revolution in thinking about spaces and embracing complexity, as computers started to show their real power. Since Gehry’s Guggenheim came to life in the mid nineties, nothing has been the same: free forms emerge everywhere from the dreamland to reality (often becoming someone else’s nightmare). Before this computer technology, except for the realm of the mind and clay modeling, real control over complexity through technical drawings was too hard a game for us ordinary mortals but eventually, in the last 10 years or so more powerful and cheaper computers and even cheaper software, capable of astonishing parametric-generated design elements, came out. Since then, new generations of designers have started to set free mind-blowing ideas, showing the world amazing computer generated pictures. Some architects even started to build them.
