Hey folks, I'm sad to share that we are winding down Pebble. After we renamed from T2 to Pebble, we simply stopped growing (the "T2" name encapsulated the value prob a bit better). Threads has emerged as the primary Twitter alternative, and their struggles with retention just created more raised more question marks for investors. It became clear we weren't going to be able to raise more funding. We decided to shut down as professionally as we can: We are giving users a nicely gift wrapped archive of their posts, before the final day of operations on November 1. We learned a lot on this journey, and I'm aiming to share more about our lessons learned soon. Thank you all for your support! https://lnkd.in/g2J3Da7J

the thing is, you tried. And boy what an effort you guys put up. I'm glad to have been on a site with such great people while it lasted.

As I mentioned on the platform, you and Sarah and the team really did achieve something remarkable and praiseworthy. You built a SM platform that showed you really can create "a better internet." Pebble incentivized civility. The members were generally nice to one another. Something about how you set it up created an atmosphere in which even when I was posting something I had strong opinions about, I was way more thoughtful in how I did that than I ever would have bothered trying on Twitter/X. I am looking forward to what you do next. I'm definitely going to follow your work and I wish you and the team more success.

Sure ? Sad to here but from a German perspective there is only twitter. No one uses threads bec it’s blocked from meta and mastodon .. is empty. Maybe you should try it outside the US instead of shutting it down. Are there no other countries that may use it ? About the name: Reminds more to the flintstones as to a social network (sorry). Why not keep T2? At least better then X.

It was great to be a part of this journey. You all should be very proud of building a great product. If your hypothesis about the name change is correct, it's as interesting as it is sad and a valuable learning experience. I'll be patiently awaiting what you all do next. Thanks for the good memories, the quick execution, and the heartfelt desire to create a sorely needed alternative amidst the chaos of the last year 💜

Sorry it didn't work out, Gabor. Hope you still enjoyed the experience. I'm sure you learned an immense amount. I personally made the move to mastodon. There is definitely a learning curve, but it is getting better and better, not least as more and more ex-twitter app developers come over and build great tools. Join us.

This is so interesting because I personally am not seeing a lot happening on Threads. I'm seeing a lot of content in the tech space on Mastodon & LinkedIn, and a lot of people in the queer space on BlueSky (as well as journalists and a few other groups). Threads always seems dusty every time I peek in.

Hi gabor, it's been inspiring to see the journey from the sidelines: The pace of progress, the excitement, and the authenticity. I'm sure this has been rough, but love to see the positive impact it created on the propel around you .

Gabor, being a T2/Pebble user was an absolute dream! I loved it and I'm sorry to see it go. But it proves that people online can be consistently good to each other, no matter their differences. I'm so grateful to have been part of it while it lasted. Looking forward to your next project!

I can only imagine the sweat and time that went into this. And as a fellow entrepreneur I celebrate anyone who tries... really tries. So well done: well done for making it that far on such an ambitious project
