I have a confession. I’m a serial churner. From movie streaming services to editing tools. I sign up to streaming services in fall and winter. I churn ahead of spring and summer when I’m outdoors. And I’m not alone. According to The Streamable, 56 million serial churners cancelled streaming services in 2023. That's right. 56 million customers churn, and sign back up at a later time. However, serial churners are in every industry. So what do you do if they’re doing the same to your product? Here are some ideas: - Limit access to premium features for longer-term commitments. - Replace free trials with low-cost paid trials to filter non-committed users. - Use stepped discounts (50% to 15%) to ease customers into full pricing. - Offer budget-friendly options and annual deals with cancellation fees to deter quick churn. - Integrate the service into various aspects of users' lives for increased dependence. Can the product have dual purpose? - Create bundles with complementary services across industries to attract dedicated super-consumers and reduce churn.
