1 year ago, Twitter got new ownership and started its journey downward. At the same time, it's been a pretty exciting time in social with the emergence of text-based alternatives, decentralization, and a rethinking of what social could be. "Apps like Mastodon and Threads will compete based on the privacy, security, moderation, and discovery features that they offer. The new generation of text-based social media apps and services is already behaving less like content sandboxes, and more like web browsers.
