To everyone affected, do what is necessary to recover and recalibrate. That looks different for everyone. Never forget you as a creative have so much more to offer than artwork alone. Use your ingenuity, evolve, and channel your skills into your next role or create your next role for yourself. You have faculties that will guide you.

Warning: This incoming humblebrag is punctuated by shameless self-promotion. 😭 This "big game" was the first in perhaps ten years that I did not create a single thing for it. (It was much less stressful, though.) I am, however, always delighted to see how my work (in 2006) on "the yellow line" has progressed–and how it has become a helpful staple of NFL broadcasts without becoming annoying. As the first Creative Director for Sportvision (now Sports Media), I joined when they already had the yellow 1st down line. My friends like to say I invented it, but I did not. I had the honor of helping design the down and yard marker arrows, red zone, player tracking graphics, and the operator's user interface with my team at the time (Keith Reinbold, Marcus Reed, Paul Papagiannis), who would make the most incredible proof of concept videos using 3D match moving and motion tracking when these techniques (and even rendering in HD) were still relatively new. Then, incredible engineers would build the hardware and software to make everything work. I'm glad they haven't made it a distraction from the action. With more game industry layoffs announced, with the VFX industry still recovering from the writer's strike, and with the news at Kidscreen that no one is buying any animation, there are a lot of people hit hard out there. Sometimes, the future can feel like nothing but doom. I posted this little reel that we put together onto the front page of our website this week. It represents a slice of what we've accomplished in the last 3 years at Future House Studios. It's a reminder to myself and my team that yes, team, you are awesome. Let’s start this journey by discussing my career path so far and why I feel it adds validity to my prior statement that all sectors of the game industry are the same. I’ll start with a snippet of my 12-year journey in the game industry Started at Rocket City Studios, a small indie gem in my mind, where we published a title by the name of Second Chane Heroes that, unfortunately, got pulled when the servers were shut down. First layoff experience—talk about a wild start! Moved on to serious games, leveraging my military background and 3D skills. Camber, later acquired by Huntington Ingalls Industries, became my playground, where I helped create Award-winning serious game applications for the military. HII, though, laid me off twice. Freelanced with Fenrir Studio’s for a quick sec — project didn't take off, so I bailed. Next stop—Verity Integrated Systems. Began making imaginary things look real, but the thirst for more led to starting an XR Division. Virtual engineering took center stage, bringing military assets to life through AR, VR, and MR. And the journey continues! I am currently at Lost Boys Interactive, soaking in the AAA knowledge.
