About us

Founded in 1978 by Walter A. Rasic, Sr., W.A. Rasic Construction Company has been in the business of building American infrastructure for over 45 years. Born in Dole, Herzegovina to Croatian parents, Walter A. Rasic, Sr. left his family at an early age, powered by the dream of escaping communist Yugoslavia. He made it as far as a German work camp where he spent three years learning the trade of installing pipelines, mains and services. With a growing ambition, Walter had his eyes set on achieving the American Dream. Teaching himself English, he made it to the United States in 1961, working for a cousin that had established a pipeline construction company while also working as a dishwasher in the evenings. In the early 1970’s, Walter took the leap, starting his own construction company, and in 1978, incorporated W.A. Rasic Construction Company, Inc. The company's founding purpose still rings true to this day -- building relationships and developing American infrastructure that enriches the lives of the communities that we live. Since that time, Walter’s three sons joined him in the family business, which has diversified its service offerings to include all elements of utilities construction from water, wastewater, sewer, power, gas, refined products and beyond. W.A. Rasic has become one of the largest privately-held utility contractors in the Western United States. As the world and its markets evolve, one thing has remained constant for W.A. Rasic and that is our foundation, which is rooted in our American values and family tradition.

W.A. Rasic Construction Company, Inc.'s Fuel Terminal Expansion Project in Carson, California has hit a milestone this week with the pouring of the first of three concrete tank rings in support of what will be a series of 240' diameter above-ground fuel storage tanks. With this area of scope rapidly nearing completion, we are now preparing for the construction of the tanks along with the fabrication of all high-pressure interconnect piping ranging from 42" to 12" in diameter along with manifolds, metering, and ILI facilities. Tip of the cap to our skilled superintendent Mark Stewart and our concrete and carpentry teams for demonstrating such artistry in their crafts! Stay tuned for more progress...

Still buzzing after last week's American Gas Association Spring Conference. As a member of the Construction Operations Committee for the past six years, this year was, perhaps, the year that I've left the most motivated about the future of our industry. In an age where sustainability strategies are too politically dogmatic, the AGA is focusing on true data-driven net impacts. From renewable natural gas (RNG) initiatives to distributive hydrogen blending and improvements to the efficiency of a unit of gas-driven energy, this industry is poised to continue its role in driving down carbon emissions across the world through innovation. A sustainable energy future includes a portfolio of varying energy sources and natural gas has a huge role to play in the betterment of our environment and the independence of our nation's energy future. I am proud to have represented W.A. Rasic Construction Company, Inc. in its maiden voyage as a member of the association and look forward to our continued work with industry colleagues to build safe and reliable energy infrastructure in America.

  • W.A. Rasic is proud to announce the recent award of a $50+ Million contract in Southern California to construct a major terminal expansion for a prominent transportation fuels producer!   The project entails the construction of three (3) new storage tanks each spanning 240 feet in diameter and 70 feet in height as well as the mechanical fabrication and installation of high pressure, welded steel pipelines 42", 30" and combination 10"/12" in diameter, extending 2,080 LF, 450 LF, and 3,500 LF, respectively.   Supplementing these installations are the integration of advanced metering systems, valve manifolds, along with resilient concrete and structural steel supports and catwalks. Finally, WAR crews will construct new water draw, fire water, and storm water drainage systems to augment the facility's operational framework. The civil/structural undertakings include milling of nearly 1,000,000 SF of asphalt, the development of over 4,250 linear feet of concrete berm work, tank foundations, and a new paved asphalt access road.   "The award of this project illustrates the continued demonstration of our ability to safely execute challenging and complex projects in high-risk environments," says Anthony Aguilar, W.A. Rasic Division Manager for Gas and Liquids Construction. "We have spent many years now developing our reputation for meeting aggressive timelines and working with our client partners in the gas and liquid markets to deliver difficult projects with quality.  We eagerly anticipate contributing to this multi-year initiative and its ability to support the growing energy needs of the United States."

  • W.A Rasic is pleased to announce the award of the City of San Diego's Montezuma / Mid City Pipeline Phase 2, worth an estimated value over $40 Million. The project, which is part of the city's wider strategic effort to enhance the availability of clean drinking water in San Diego, will include the installation of roughly one mile of new water pipeline consisting of approximately 4,880 linear feet of a 66" diameter CML&TC welded steel transmission line as well as 646 linear feet of 8" PVC distribution main. The project, extending from the Alvarado Water Treatment Plant, will also include two trenchless crossings that will be installed via tunneling method across Interstate Hwy 8 and the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System light rail. All impacted work areas will receive improved hardscapes including ADA compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, curb and gutter, retaining walls, fencing, bike lanes, and pavement restoration. In the words of our Public Works Division Manager, Jeremy Juarez, "W.A. Rasic is encouraged and looking forward to partnering with the City of San Diego and all other involved parties to implement another successful job. We come to this project with excitement and renewed vigor, knowing collectively that we can overcome all obstacles that hinder us from delivering a high-quality product for our client partners. We would like to thank the City of San Diego for, again, putting their faith and trust in our teams".

  • Our clients rely on us to handle all of their emergency needs, at all hours, rain or shine, holidays, or Super Bowl Sunday. Here our crews skillfully repair a section of collapsed 30” sewer line approximately 18’ deep, on a section of main to be relined. Honored to have the clients’ trust, and thankful for the employees who sacrificed their nights and weekend to get the job done!

      +1
  • The W.A. Rasic Construction team is proud to celebrate a significant milestone in the San Diego Pure Water Pipeline Project. Since 2021, our team has led in the installation of approximately 7.4 miles of 48-inch welded steel pipeline as well as the construction of a state of the art cement mortar masonry de-chlorination facility. This facility boasts two (2) 4,000-gallon chemical tanks, feed pumps, analyzers, forced air ventilation, as well as sophisticated fill / dosing piping and valve manifolds. Our team skillfully constructed eight tunneling shafts to accommodate six trenchless crossings, enabling the installation of 60-inch diameter casings. A notable aspect of the tunneling work was the complex recovery of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) from the Miramar Reservoir. The operation required a wet retrieval approach, utilizing a temporary bulkhead, balloons, and a diver team for its efficient and safe recovery. In the construction of the tunneling shafts, our team employed beam and plate shoring, maintaining an average depth of 40 feet. The Miramar Reservoir launch pit was an exception, requiring the development of an impressive 100-foot-deep secant pile shaft. Following the tunneling completion, our team adeptly installed approximately one mile of subaqueous HDPE pipeline at the bottom of the reservoir. We are excited to see the project hit this important milestone and look forward to seeing this hard and complex work result in millions of gallons of fresh drinking water for the residents of San Diego. Follow the link for a look at this important project! https://lnkd.in/dmW_8M4E
