Karine Rougé, CEO of Municipal Water at Veolia North America, recently sat down with James Lee, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce in Richmond, California, to talk about our work in Richmond and the importance of regular, transparent communication with the communities we serve. Veolia operates Richmond's wastewater treatment system and recently completed a $40 million project there that will dramatically improve air and water quality in the city. Rougé discussed how Veolia partnered with the city and its Public Works department to deliver these major upgrades, and how Veolia has improved its outreach and operations to meet the expectations of Richmond's leaders and residents. We're glad Rougé and Lee could have such a frank and fruitful conversation—and we appreciate the opportunity to show how we're strengthening our commitment to Richmond. Congratulations to our partner, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, on announcing their new research lab and additional collaboration with The Water Council! We're excited to see how the innovative technologies they develop will change the way we manage wastewater.
Today, MMSD announced plans for an unprecedented clean-water lab to test new technologies that could revolutionize wastewater treatment, leading to improvements in public health and drinking water supplies worldwide. The $13 million research lab will be located at MMSD’s Oak Creek reclamation facility, allowing water technology businesses, universities, scientists, and inventors to partner with the district to test new concepts and ideas on a large scale at a working treatment plant. Based on research and experience, industry experts believe the new concepts, installed at just one of two regional treatment plants in Milwaukee, could lead to $90 million in savings over 20 years. It is our responsibility to try, try again and try differently until we find a way. As we face growing environmental crises, we at Veolia are determined to find the best solutions to minimize climate impacts and optimize the use of our precious resources. Thanks to Estelle Brachlianoff and her leadership at Veolia, we are reminded of why we do what we do, and how together we can keep fighting for an #EcologicalTransformation.
As siren calls to halt environmental initiatives grow louder, we are all feeling the real consequences of #ClimateChange with ever more intensity. Now, is not the time to give up. It is time to accelerate! 🚀 People see the world changing around them. ➡️ They see heat waves and floods becoming ever more frequent. ➡️ They see once-common resources such as water becoming scarce. ➡️ They see the impact on their #health and way of life. In the face of this deepening crisis, we have the responsibility to try, to try again, until we find a way. At Veolia, we meet the challenges head-on with a fighting spirit. We know protecting #water, fighting #pollution, and enhancing people’s health even as climate disruptions intensify is no easy task. However, this is not going to stop us: it only makes us more determined. This fighting spirit will never leave us. In fact, it has very much defined us as we’ve gone through Covid, energy, and inflation crises in just a few years. It has also been my guiding force since I was appointed to lead Veolia two years ago, and I feel like it suits us! We have repeatedly proven that we have all it takes to dare and to win decisive battles. Therefore, to everyone at Veolia, I want to say thank you for your immense energy and values, and let’s keep fighting together for #EcologicalTransformation!

Hospitals provide essential public services that require round-the-clock attention, using large amounts of energy to power everything from life-saving equipment to the lighting, heating and cooling of their facilities. Making sustainable upgrades to these facilities requires an upfront investment that some hospitals worry they won’t make back in the long term, especially as they work to balance meeting regulatory compliance and patient care. Fortunately, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) offers solutions that would help offset some of these initial costs, and allows hospitals to focus on their core responsibilities while still working toward a net zero future. Our new webinar, produced in partnership with Baker Tilly US, provides you with everything you need to leverage IRA funding and bring your hospital towards a more sustainable future. Did you know? Organic wastes from food scraps or wastewater can be repurposed into fertilizer? Through a process called anaerobic digestion, these organic materials are broken down into nutrient-rich soil to help grow food. It also produces biogas, which can be converted into renewable natural gas for injection into the gas pipeline. Learn more about how we convert organic waste into energy at https://lnkd.in/enNC5Se4
