Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt recently added pancreas and lung transplantation to the growing list of offerings from the Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant Center at Monroe Carell. “Bringing pancreas and lung transplantation into the fold will enable us to provide access to life-saving transplants for as many patients as possible, especially those patients who have traditionally traveled long distances for care," said Dr. Saeed Mohammad, MD, director of the Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant Center. The Vanderbilt Transplant Center performed a record number of solid organ transplants in fiscal year 2024, and many of the individual programs experienced record years as well. The adult program performed 760 transplants, and the pediatric program completed 49 transplants from July 2023 to June 2024. Which brings our historical total, since the first kidney transplant in 1962, to more than 13,000. Dr. Joseph Magliocca had this to say on the milestone: “While the numbers are impressive, it is so important not to lose sight of the fact that each one of those transplants is potentially a life saved and/or improved dramatically. There is always more work to do as our goal is to help as many patients with end-stage organ disease as possible. I am so proud and humbled to be a part of this amazing team." Great work, team! https://bit.ly/3A0q1tV

Today’s Friday Introduction features Dr. Rachel Valentine, an OB-GYN. She has been with Vanderbilt Women’s Health for a year and a half, and sees patients at the Vanderbilt Franklin Women's Center. In her words: I grew up in New Jersey, and did all my training at Tulane University in New Orleans. Then I moved to California, where I practiced for four years before coming here. I enjoy the outdoors, gardening and trying new recipes. I went into health care because I have a passion for women's health. I enjoy getting to treat women across all ages, from teenagers through midlife and menopause and into the golden years. I strive to provide an environment where women can put themselves first, and where women can choose the options which best work for them. I’m proud to work at Vanderbilt because I enjoy being a part of a larger organization, with the increased access to subspecialists and where every member of the team puts patients first. How I make health care personal: I aim to provide a healthy and safe environment in deliveries and surgeries where patients can feel free to express their wishes and feel supported. Congratulations to Deidra Dickerson, director of Pharmacy Operations for Vanderbilt University Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy Services, for winning the latest Five Pillar Leader Award. “I try to make sure everyone feels supported and is growing and reaching their full potential," she said. "I adjust my management style depending on what the person needs from me in the moment, and I always try to lead with the individuals impacted in mind, hearing their perspective and being as collaborative as I can when it comes to decision making.” That sounds like a leader worth celebrating! Elevate your organization's culture with evidence-based strategies! The Vanderbilt Health Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) presents "Promoting Professionalism: Addressing Behaviors that Undermine a Culture of Safety." Drawing from 25+ years of research, this two-day course provides tools to effectively address lapses in professionalism. This is crucial given the impact on care quality, finances, wellness, and team performance. The course is case-based and highly interactive. In a small cohort, you will work together to address these challenging cases that contain some unexpected twists. Below are some highlights noted by the attendees after the most recent CPPA course: “Connecting respect and redemption and humility with professionalism and safety and a practical way of implementing it in a real-world setting.” “The case studies made the concepts tangible and the practice sessions were a good way of introducing the skills.” “The facilitation was expertly and passionately delivered. It was very interactive and kept me interested the entire time!” Click the link to learn more and register: https://bit.ly/3Yehk9b
