Thank you to Ourisman Tri-State Subaru for their generous donation of 100 blankets, along with 10 care kits and a $2,500 donation to our cancer program at ChristianaCare Union Hospital. This past June, as part of the Subaru Loves to Care® initiative, Subaru and local retailers partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® and local hospital cancer treatment centers to give warm blankets and encouraging messages of hope, written by retailers and Subaru customers in their stores, to support patients facing cancer. Our neighbors receiving cancer care and treatment truly enjoy the blankets that give them a feeling of warmth and comfort. #LoveOfHealth #Subaru #SubaruLovesToCare #cecilcountymd

Congratulations to Michelle Schaffer, RN, of ChristianaCare Union Hospital for receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! 🌼 A patient’s mother nominated Schaffer for her exceptional patient- and family-centered care. The nominator was working when she received a call that her son was in an accident. “When I arrived at his bedside, he was unrecognizable, and Michelle did the most extraordinary thing — she made me a part of his care team,” the nominator wrote. “She immediately updated me and then let me do small things to assist her. While we waited for an ultrasound and a CT scan, she held my hand and made me feel less alone. Camp Scrubs was so successful last year for eighth grader Carter Phillippi, he decided to participate for a second year to prepare for his future in medicine. “I came back because last year was good, and this year I knew there would be a lot more people to meet and learn with,” he said. He and his fellow campers-turned-friends spent a week engaging in all things medical through Camp Scrubs. It grants interested teens and tweens the opportunity for firsthand hospital experience as a health care professional. In conjunction with a partnership with Cecil College and ChristianaCare Union Hospital, Camp Scrubs exposes students to career opportunities and helps them understand the important role of medical care within a community. Students got to “scrub in” at Camp Scrubs this past week at ChristianaCare Union Hospital🥼 They had the opportunity to attend workshops with medical professionals from several departments and engage in hands-on learning activities. From the Family Birth Center to the Operating Room, the campers could explore their interests and have questions answered. Their artistry and consideration of the Cecil County caregivers and visitors can be seen in front of ChristianaCare Union Hospital and on the bridge. Painted rocks can be found in our rock garden for visitors to take with them for inspiration and motivation. You can find quotes, sea creatures, strawberries, and even a minion! 🍓 Students also painted our bridge windows to help brighten the days of our visitors & caregivers, as well as the community members passing through. Thank you to Cecil College, Elkton Police Department, and Singerly Fire Company for making this week so special. We look forward to welcoming our next group of campers in August! #LoveOfHealth #CecilCountyMD #healthcare
