The Fourth of July is an exciting holiday filled with friends, family, fireworks, and fun. But for some children with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism, the holiday can be overstimulating and uncomfortable due to booming sounds and colors during fireworks shows. Learn how to navigate the day's challenges with these helpful tips from UC Davis Health: https://lnkd.in/gA7vqPT8 📍Timing and Location: Bring your child for just part of the event, i.e. the party or picnic, then opt for a place where your child can retreat easily to watch fireworks, like home or a car. 🎆 Prepare in advance: Build excitement and set expectations with Fourth of July-themed books and videos of fireworks. 🎧 Pack essentials: If staying at home or in your car for fireworks viewing isn't possible, bring a sensory or fidget toy, art supplies or headphones. ⛑️ Safety First: Implement a countdown system should you choose to stay outside during a fireworks show. This way, children can anticipate when noises start. 🤝 Ask for help: Communicate with other adults about how they can support your child.
