Hi! I’m Greg Pollock. Direct Video Calling (DVC) has impacted our community immensely. But did you know we still don’t have direct access to 911? Watch my story to see how DVC can ensure timely responses. Let’s discuss DVC and safety! DM us and we'll set up a call. #Deaf #DeafCulture #EquitableCommunication #DirectVideoCalling #DVC #CSD #ASLNow [Video Description: A man with short dark hair, wearing a gray vest, black shirt, and a patterned bow tie, standing in front of a white grid-patterned wall. Transcript: Hi! I’m Greg Pollock. Direct Video Calling (DVC) has already impacted our lives and our community. I use DVC every day to interact with companies. With their representatives knowing ASL and me knowing ASL, we can both communicate in ASL, and it's amazing. Did you know that we still don’t have direct access to 911 or any emergency services? Right now, we have to connect with an interpreter to make a 911 call for us. That can be time-consuming and could impact our lives. My vision for the near future is to see that everyone can access emergency services directly to ensure we stay safe and receive timely responses. Come and join us in discussing how we can make this vision a reality. Reach out and let’s talk about how we can create a better world for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. We’re here to help.

  • The little things count when you put out marketing content for your business. If you haven't thought about hashtags, it's time that you do! Here's a tip: It’s essential to capitalize the first letter of each word in your hashtag. Why? Screen readers will recognize hashtags as one long and jumbled word when written in lowercase. When you add capitalization to the first letter of each word in the hashtag, it will be recognized as separate words. Start today! Follow us for more tips. #DisabilityPrideMonth #InclusionMatters #Accessibility [Image Description: The background is white with black and disability flag colors border. The text "Disability" is handshaped in black outline. Each handshape of the word has the text letter faded in the background in disability pride flag colors. Underneath the graphic are the following text in black: "HAPPY DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH", and "Tip: Be sure to use uppercase letters in your hashtags to be more accessible!" There are two bullet points, light red and light green. The red bullet point has "disability pride month" hashtag with no capitalization. The green bullet point has the hashtag with uppercase letters for each word. At the bottom right is the CSD logo.]

Hi, I’m Jesse, and I’m Deaf. Direct Video Calling (DVC) has transformed my life. Imagine discussing medical information directly with your doctor in ASL. That’s the power of DVC. Watch my story to learn more. Find us at the 2024 Disability:IN Global Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. Let’s make DVC happen for everyone! 🎲 #AreYouIN? #INfor2024 #DisabilityIN #Deaf #DeafCulture #EquitableCommunication #DirectVideoCalling #DVC #CSD #ASLNow #DEI [Video Description: A man with short dark hair and a beard, wearing glasses and a dark polo shirt, standing outdoors with trees in the background. Transcript: Hello, my name is Jesse, and I’m a Deaf customer who prefers using Direct Video Calling (DVC). While DVC has already changed our lives in many ways, I hope it will become mainstream, with more organizations using it in various services and areas in the near future. For example, I want to be able to call my doctor’s office directly to understand medical information. Using a third-party service can sometimes be unclear, but talking directly to a Deaf person or someone who knows ASL ensures mutual understanding. They can explain in detail, avoiding the potential loss of information that might occur with an interpreter. Connecting directly with someone who understands me helps me better understand my health, which is really important for many Deaf people. Not just with medical-related services, but many areas could benefit from having DVC. Now, let’s make this happen everywhere for Deaf people. Get in touch with the CSD or ASL Now team; we’re ready to help, especially for our Deaf community. Thanks for watching my story; join us and make equitable communication happen.]

Hi, I’m Kayla, and I’m Deaf. Miscommunications with interpreters cost me time and money. But DVC allowed me to connect directly with a Deaf representative—no misunderstandings, no frustrations. Want to know how? Watch my story. Join us at the 2024 Disability:IN Global Conference & Expo in Las Vegas. Let’s talk about DVC and equitable communication! 🎲 www.csd.org/realtalk #AreYouIN? #INfor2024 #DisabilityIN #Deaf #DeafCulture #EquitableCommunication #DirectVideoCalling #DVC #CSD #ASLNow [Video Description: A woman with short blonde hair, wearing a gray cardigan over a black top, seated indoors with a green plant and a blue and white decorative wall hanging in the background. Transcript: Hi. I’m Kayla and I’m Deaf. I use Direct Video Calling (DVC). Before DVC, getting in touch with different customer supports was painful and frustrating. Why? For instance, I remember one situation with a car accident. To make a claim, I was explaining what happened about the car accident. The interpreter I was using for my call kept misunderstanding me and used a tone that did not fit the situation I was in. As I tried to explain, it was difficult, and the miscommunication led to my insurance rates doubling. I was stunned. That experience, and many similar situations where I had to use an interpreter, caused miscommunication and misunderstanding. But when I first used DVC, I remember needing to transfer someone’s name to my name for a phone provider. When I called directly, I got a Deaf representative, and I couldn’t believe it. I signed in ASL, and the representative signed back, completely understanding me. The interaction was incredibly smooth. I didn’t have to repeat anything, there was no misunderstanding, and the representative had no issue in understanding me and got everything resolved quickly. Not kidding, the situation I needed to be handled was solved in a minute. Since using DVC, it has been wonderful. My experience in connecting with companies has improved so much. The companies that provide DVC really show they value accessibility and inclusivity, making me feel like an important customer. I’m excited to stay connected with the companies I’m loyal to and encourage my friends to consider their services. Want to discuss more about making this vision a reality for you? Get in touch with us at CSD or the ASL Now team; we’re here to help. Thanks for watching my story; join us and make equitable communication happen.
