The Hartford reposted this
This time of year, many of us enjoy outdoor sports, such as biking, hiking or basketball, and need minimal equipment, such as a good pair of athletic shoes and a ball, to join the fun. For others, getting in the game requires much more, such as a customized wheelchair. The high cost of adaptive equipment, or lack of access to an adaptive sports program, prevents far too many from enjoying the transformative power of sports. The Hartford is working to level the playing field for all athletes. Earlier this week, we surprised three athletes with donations of customized equipment during The Hartford Nationals, the largest and longest-standing national sport championship event for athletes with a physical, visual, and/or intellectual disability. Champion wheelchair basketball player Matt Scott PLY joined us at the weeklong event in Birmingham, Alabama. In the past five years, we have donated 5,500 pieces of adaptive equipment in more than 50 communities across the country. We are honored to sponsor this annual event filled with competitions, clinics, education and social opportunities for 400-plus athletes. Expanding access and equity in sports enriches the sporting landscape, fosters innovation, and contributes to a more inclusive and respectful society – meaning we all win. #MoveUnited #AdaptiveSports #ChampionsCompeteHere #AdaptiveAthletes http://ms.spr.ly/6043lRHxh
