Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13 Earlier today, we had the privilege of dedicating a Tactical Marine Unit boat in honor of fallen Trooper Matthew Dewayne Myrick who died in the line of duty in January 2006. The newly commissioned boat will serve as a permanent reminder of Trooper Myrick’s selfless service and dedication to our great state. Trooper Myrick's legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone at DPS, and we will never forget our friend and fallen hero. Special thanks to Trooper Myrick’s family, State Representative Four Price, DPS Regional Director Joe Longway, Texas Highway Patrol Chief Bryan Rippee, fellow Troopers and other area law enforcement and elected officials who attended the ceremony. Watch your speed, Texas! DPS wants to remind motorists to slow down and obey the speed limit. We're partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation for Operation Slowdown, which runs through August 4. This statewide enforcement initiative is geared specifically towards getting Texas drivers to slow down and match their speed to current road conditions. Speeding is the number one contributing factor in traffic crashes in our state. So, please do your part: Slow down, and #BeSafeDriveSmart.
