The goal of liberalism is the peaceful cooperation of all men. Freedom, democracy, peace, and private property are deemed good because they are the best means for promoting human happiness and welfare. Liberalism wants to secure to man a life free from fear and want. That is all. — Ludwig von Mises

In 1970, America had a vision for a carbon-free energy future powered entirely by nuclear energy. From 1967 to 1972, the nuclear sector experienced significant growth, with 48 new nuclear plants built. But then, environmentalists came up with a different agenda. If today we don’t have a 100% carbon-free grid, it’s thanks to them.

“A technological invention is not something material. It is the product of a mental process, of reasoning and conceiving new ideas. The tools and machines may be called material, but the operation of the mind which created them is certainly spiritual.” — Ludwig von Mises If you agree with this, Students For Liberty is the right place for you! And yet, these so-called champions of the poor have no qualms about deceiving us. They spout lofty words while their actions speak volumes. Behind their facade of concern lies a web of perverse incentives, ensuring that housing prices continue their relentless ascent. It’s a cash cow for governments at all levels, feasting on the steady stream of property tax revenue. But it doesn’t stop there. Local governments greedily feast on council rates, while state governments rely ever more heavily on land tax, stamp duty, and the audacious ‘windfall gains’ tax recently imposed in Victoria. They shamelessly exploit the housing crisis to fund their own agendas. The solution is crystal clear: we must unleash the power of the free market. We need more houses, more choices, and more freedom for individuals to pursue their dreams. It’s time to cast aside the shackles of government interference and unleash all the power of prosperity. Yes, it may disrupt the comfortable flow of tax revenue into their coffers. But the pursuit of liberty and the wellbeing of our fellow citizens should be our highest priority. Let us build a future where affordable housing is not just a dream but a reality for all, unburdened by the greed and self-interest of those in power. Join us in the fight for freedom and become a Local Coordinator with Students For Liberty. Together, we can make a difference, empower individuals, and champion the principles of liberty. Do you ever wonder why you can buy food at a grocery store? We may take this for granted, but going to the store wasn’t an option for 99.9% of human existence. People had access only to the food they grew themselves. One or two bad winters could mean the end for you and your entire family. That started to change radically with Capitalism. The establishment of property rights and a cultural shift in how we view profit, trade, and entrepreneurial activities legitimized the occupation of understanding people’s needs and working to fulfill them through profit. Suddenly, individuals had an incentive to work harder and, more importantly, smarter. They had an incentive to harvest a surplus of food to be traded not only for more food but also for tools and other materials that could help increase their productivity. In cities, the old guilds that made clothes and consumer goods for a few were replaced by industries that made them for the masses. Today, we take for granted the ability to order a million different products for a million different purposes from Amazon, and have it on our doorstep in less than 24 hours. But you can be sure, that would have sounded like an impossible fantasy to our ancestors.
