The Speed Cinema at the Speed Art Museum is excited to further our collaborations with the Sundance Film Festival and is excited that Louisville is advancing to the next round of consideration as a site for the festival starting in 2027. In 2021 the Speed Cinema was a satellite venue for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and has presented the Sundance Short Film tour each year since we opened in 2016. Many of the films that premiered at Sundance are screened at the Speed when they are released in theaters. We’d be thrilled to host the ground-breaking films that the Sundance Film Festival premieres each year. --Dean Otto, Curator of Film, Speed Art Museum Exciting news! Our beloved city has been chosen as a finalist for the home of the Sundance Film Festival, @sundanceorg. Let's make this happen! Read more - https://bit.ly/3LyxPoY

"Over the decades, Kusama became a unique, transgressive trailblazer for women as a female artist in a male-dominated art world. Now, here in Kentucky for the first time, we can all enter her imagination simply by walking into her mirrored artwork." - Curator Tyler Blackwell via Aria Baci from Leo Weekly Read more about our newest experience at the Speed, Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrored Room – Let's Survive Forever"

“Kentuckians are the best storytellers. I learned it all here.” - Allison Anders This week, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at the Speed Art Museum Cinema for a screening of Mi Vida Loca, directed by the talented Allison Anders. Allison Anders is an acclaimed filmmaker known for her work in independent cinema. Her films often focus on strong female characters and diverse stories. Growing up in Kentucky, she has made a significant mark in the film industry with her unique voice and dedication to authentic storytelling. I'm so grateful to be part of a community that celebrates women's stories and engages with filmmakers on such a personal level. A big shoutout to LEO Weekly LLC / Tracy Heightchew for hosting the Q&A and making this event even more special. A special thank you to Allison Anders, a proud Kentucky native, for joining us for the film. Her storytelling truly captures women's perspectives in such a profound way. Check out Tracy’s Leo Weekly article on the event here: https://lnkd.in/gQpmbdYu And check out all the amazing films playing at the Speed Art Museum Cinema up next here: https://lnkd.in/gBu7-jtE #SpeedCinema #MiVidaLoca #AllisonAnders #LeoWeekly #Storytelling #WomenInFilm

Beginning this Friday, "Louisville's Black Avant Garde: William M. Duffy" opens at the Speed Art Museum A sincere congratulations to the artist, and the curator of this exhibition fari nzinga, Ph.D. https://lnkd.in/eYHxeCZM Duffy's solo exhibition introduces visitors to the long, innovative artistic career of the youngest artist involved with the modern art period documented in my oral history project "Painting a Legacy". This solo presentation of the beloved Louisville artist represents the second summer installment affiliated with Dr. nzinga's and my curatorial initiative on Louisville's Black Avant Garde 1950- 1980. If you are in the Ohio River Valley region this summer, please make a stop to see this forthcoming show. And congratulations once more, Duffy and fari!
