We are thrilled to announce that the Southland Development Authority (SDA) has received a generous $100K grant from Northern Illinois Community Initiatives (NICI) to support our Finance Arm project. This grant will significantly enhance our ability to provide financial resources and services to local businesses in the Southland. The event was held at a house rehabbed through the SDA's Harvey Housing Initiative (HHI). This initiative focuses on acquiring distressed properties, rehabilitating them for affordable home ownership, and helping low and moderate-income families build generational wealth. The event was graced by NICOR and NICI staff, local media, SDA board members, elected officials, and community leaders. SDA's Director of Business Growth Services, Emmanuel D., moderated the "Match Making to Funding Opportunities" panel at the 2nd annual Latino Economic Summit. The summit was hosted by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and spearheaded by Latinx Business Development Manager, Diana Alfaro. The panelists discussed how entrepreneurs can work with lenders to build relationships and access capital to grow their businesses.

The SDA team, alongside the CEO Bo Kemp, took part in the Southland Day of Service at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. It was a fantastic event where we joined forces with other organizations dedicated to improving our region in a unified effort to end hunger.

Village Unveils Designs for Future Hazel Crest Arts Center! 🎨🏢 On July 11, the Village of Hazel Crest, alongside Latent Design and Kimley Horn, hosted a public engagement session to present design options for the future Hazel Crest Center for the Arts. This event marked the first major reveal for the Village's signature project for 2024-2025, showcasing a significant investment with support from key backers like Rep. Will Davis. The new vision for the arts center involves transforming a vacant retail building on Dixie Highway @ 170th into a vibrant cultural hub in the Village's historic business district, which has faced challenges since the 2008 recession. The Village team presented three design options for public input and gathered feedback on key design elements such as signage, lighting, street furniture, and traffic flow considerations on Dixie Highway.
