🌍✨ While renewable energy tech like solar and wind has surged ahead, large industrial production still lags in going green. Crucial materials like steel are predominantly produced using coal, contributing to 9% of global carbon emissions! 🌫️ This not only impacts our climate but also exposes communities and workers to toxic pollution. Sierra Club’s new Industrial Transformation campaign aims to change this, proving that we can have a strong economy, good-paying jobs, and clean air and water! 💪🏭 Join us on July 31 for a virtual town hall with Rep. Ro Khanna to discuss the future of a green, equitable industrial sector and the transformative STEEL Act. Let’s work together to build clean manufacturing processes and ensure a sustainable future for all! 🌱👷 https://bit.ly/3Wic41T
About us
At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

In another win for Beyond Coal, an aging municipal coal plant in Ohio will be retired — and replaced by clean solar power and battery storage. This closure means that the local community can look forward to a future with less coal pollution in their air and water, a steady supply of cheap, clean energy, and a healthier planet for their kids and grandkids.
Cuyahoga County has secured an @EPA grant for $129 million, retiring Painesville’s aging coal plant. Now, they can build new solar and install battery storage to power their homes and community. The grant will also restore habitats, expand tree coverage, and create pollinator habitats. This is a major victory for Painesville, Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County in the fight against climate change. https://bit.ly/4bW0P4X

How do you turn an aging coal plant into a beacon of clean energy? With a $129M US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant, Cuyahoga County is doing just that. With the City of Painesville’s retirement announcement, Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign has retired 73% of US coal. 145 plants left to go!

The Sierra Club is proud to endorse @KamalaHarris for President. The Biden-Harris administration has made historic strides in environmental and climate action. We must continue this progress with Harris at the helm. Our future depends on it! https://bit.ly/4d9VtEa

Project 2025 proposes extreme changes that threaten our democracy, environment, and economy. By rolling back environmental protections and limiting the EPA, it would endanger public health and safety, allowing corporate polluters to bypass regulations. We need as many people as possible to know about this dangerous plan so we can fight back and make sure it never becomes a reality. Share this post with friends and family.

I’m bringing Sierra Club international! ⚡ I recently spoke with Robert Llewellyn on the UK-based podcast Fully Charged Show, and we had an incredible conversation about all-things clean transportation. 🚴♀️ 🚗 🚚 🚌 We spoke about the importance of cutting pollution to ensure everyone can breathe clean air and we meet our global climate goals. We discussed how some automakers are delaying the move to all-electric, and Sierra Club's advocacy for more affordable electric vehicles – both heavy and light duty – here in the States. I even learned that UK and US media are making the same false claim about #EV demand (spoiler: consumer demand is actually growing despite the headlines!). And we chatted about e-bikes, electric school buses, parking reform, and making transit more accessible. So much to talk about! Huge thanks to Robert and the Fully Charged Show for an electrifying episode on the future of #electricvehicles. Watch the full conversation on YouTube below, or search “The Fully Charged Show” anywhere you listen to podcasts.
