Today marks National Hire a Veteran Day, a reminder for employers to consider former military service members for job vacancies. We’re proud of our many colleagues, friends, and family who are veterans, and we thank them for their service to our country. Kelley Beck, one of Sharecare’s in-home clinical strategy leads, recently told us about a phone call she received last Veteran’s Day from Tim Husted, EVP and general manager of Sharecare’s provider and home care lines of business. She explained that the appreciation she felt towards her past service and her husband’s continued service in the military, made her even more grateful to be a part of our team.

We're excited to have partnered with Fortune, contributing data from Sharecare’s Community Well-Being Index for the third annual Fortune 50 Best Places to Live for Families 2024. This year's ranking highlights a city in each state where multigenerational families are most likely to have access to excellent schools, highly recommended hospitals, affordable housing, resources for older adults, and a strong sense of community. Notably, Silver Spring, MD, and Portsmouth, NH, have ranked in the top 10 for the second consecutive year, while Iowa City, IA, has been honored on the list for three years running. Our vice president of research, Dr. Michael Rickles, told Fortune, “We know that health isn’t just what’s happening inside your body. It’s your social connections, your perceptions of safety, and there’s a lot that goes into what makes a city well.” This perspective is central to our Index, which Dr. Rickles described as a “person-centric” metric, considering social determinants of health such as access to transportation, green spaces, parks, libraries, and community. At this year's 39th Annual Conference on Rural and Public Health, our Blue Zones Project Grand Forks team proudly received the “Public Health Team of the Year Award” from the North Dakota Public Health Association for their efforts to make healthy choices easier in Grand Forks, ND. This conference, a joint effort by the North Dakota Rural Health Association, Altru Health System, the UND College of Nursing & Professional Disciplines, and Und Center For Rural Health, annually brings together hundreds of healthcare professionals, educators, and students to discuss ways to enhance community health across the state. We are proud of how the Blue Zones Project team's initiatives, such as dog-friendly walking moais and Bike to Work Day, along with their efforts to transform worksites and promote student well-being, represent a true collaborative effort. This involvement of the entire community works toward one common goal—to support and build a culture of community health and well-being. 🔗 To learn more about the Blue Zones Project Grand Forks and participate in upcoming events, visit https://lnkd.in/dkreWGzi.

Social well-being emphasizes the importance of making meaningful connections with others. Having strong relationships helps us feel supported, valued, and connected, which is crucial for our mental and emotional health. According to the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index, nearly 45% of people in areas where they frequently receive encouragement feel their health is nearly perfect. In contrast, only 36% feel this way in places where encouragement is less common.

A key member of one of the smallest and mightiest teams at Sharecare, this month we’re spotlighting Arthur Diaz, who most of you know as “Arty.” From the moment Arty joined Sharecare as a corporate communications intern in the summer of 2021, it was clear he had an innate talent for building strong, meaningful relationships with colleagues across all departments while effectively handling high-stress situations in a calm and productive manner. Celebrating his three-year “workaversary” in May, in his time at Sharecare, Arty has grown alongside the company and earned promotions, recently advancing to his current role as a senior corporate communications specialist. As one of three team members responsible for crafting press releases, media relations, public speaking appearances, awards nominations, newsletters, blog posts, LinkedIn posts, and a variety of other initiatives – after working hours, Arty is just as passionate about writing and communication. Based in Salt Lake City, he contributes to a local magazine in his spare time and has a lofty goal of learning 10 languages, which he’s halfway towards. We hope you'll join us in recognizing Arty and follow the link to read more about one of our favorite employees!
