“This past Saturday, SCC graduated 15 successful participants in our Apprentice Readiness program, at the Construction Training Institute of Colorado (we even had a mother and son graduating together). I was incredibly moved by those in attendance supporting their loved ones. Grandmothers and parents, spouses, proud siblings and a collection of young children from teens to toddlers. I’m grateful to see the “relief” on the faces of those who spent a lot of time worrying about and praying for family members struggling with challenging issues over the years (not the least of which was poor decision making). Looking at the children I was moved to think/know that they “have chances” now they may not have had before…because of the commitment of these men and women to a new course for their lives. Tears flowed (and I wasn’t the only one) at the promise of what careers in the trades will mean for all of them: Truly this program is Generationally Impactful and I couldn’t be more proud of or grateful to Khalil Halim, Candice Sporhase, Rashid Jordan, Megan Burnham, Michael Rollerson and all the other trainers and supporters of this incredible program (special shoutout to the folks at Denver Economic Development Office for choosing this program to generously fund). Mock interviews are done, after each graduation, by members of the construction industry. This day 9 of the 15 graduates were hired on the spot, offered opportunities for career developing/mortgage paying jobs. Wow! I really still can’t find the words. Congratulations All👏🏽” -Hassan Latif Founder of SCC

So excited to share our work on the Structural Conditions and Health After Release from Prison (SCHARP) study at COPRH Con 2024 ACCORDS (Health Services Research). America Elias and I will present a poster highlighting the IRB-approved protocol we used to recruit and retain people recently released from prison into the longitudinal cohort arm of our study. We will discuss how community leaders like Second Chance Center, Inc. have been instrumental in building trust and mutual respect between our team and our participants. Immensely grateful for our investigators Stacie Daugherty MD MSPH and Ingrid Binswanger for giving us the opportunity to help disseminate this important work that we love.
The Colorado Pragmatic Research in Health Conference (COPRH Con) begins next Wednesday, June 5th! The registration fee is waived for students, staff, and faculty of CU School of Medicine, Children's Hospital Colorado, and CCTSI members. Learn more and register at https://lnkd.in/gVj9vzPK
