In June of last year, I walked into a Rise interview as a finalist with hope in my heart and my fingers crossed that all would turn out well. In September, I was one of the 100 young people chosen out of 80,000+ others to embark on the journey of change-making with Rise, and you could not even imagine my excitement. Fast forward to just two weeks ago in London, where I was opportune to meet the most amazing group of young changemakers ever: the Rise Global Winners! Through the workshops, the networking mixers, and the fun interactive sessions, I got to make 99+ new friends, even getting to meet the brains working behind the scenes to make such an exceptional program a reality! From speaking with inspirational leaders and changemakers like Elizabeth Kiss, Vee Kativhu, ed.m and Matt Clifford to visiting places like The Francis Crick Institute, a hub for scientific research on the innovative gene-editing CRISPR, and 10 Downing Street, the residence of the British Prime Minister, the Rise residential summit was a uniquely empowering experience for me as a lover of learning and a developing leader and changemaker. I am excited to leverage this knowledge and valuable lifelong connections for future growth and impact. My deepest gratitude goes to the Rhodes Trust and Schmidt Futures for creating an empowering platform for young changemakers through Rise, to the most exceptional people I was able to network with, and of course to my fellow Rise Global Winners for a most amazing summit! Hello everyone! I recently attended the Rise Residential Summit in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, an opportunity which enabled me to create friendships with some of the brightest minds from around the world and find inspiring mentors actively working towards solving problems I am passionate about. From presenting innovative solutions to help humanitarian workers with a team of accomplished cohort members to visiting 10 Downing Street, the residence of the British Prime Minister, every new experience I gained during the Summit provided me newer insights into the world. I am thankful to everyone who was a part of this experience and contributed to making it a huge success. I am especially grateful to Rhodes Trust and Schmidt Futures for providing me this exceptional platform. Last week, we kicked-off the 2023 Rise Residential Summit in London, where Rise Global Winners (RGWs) are participating in three weeks of seminars, workshops and developing capstone projects. Most importantly, the summit is an opportunity for RGWs to connect with each other and mentors to brainstorm how they can use their talent in service of others.
