A big shout out to Stop & Shop of Hopewell Junction for your donation to our Poughkeepsie Community Center food pantry. This delivery was over 1400 lbs of essential groceries! 🥦 This couldn’t have come at a better time given the critical need for food among the populations we support. These contributions allow us to get resources to those who need it the most. From our staff, volunteers, and the guests that we serve, thank you so much! ❤️ #SalvationArmy #Poughkeepsie #NewYork #StopAndShop #FoodPantry #Donation #BeTheChange #Community #HelpOthers #CriticalNeed

About us
The Salvation Army's vision since its founding in 1865 has been to provide physical and emotional care to those suffering and in need, without discrimination. The Salvation Army is committed to helping people in need of assistance, whether due to a disaster, a personal tragedy, or the circumstances of one's life. The Salvation Army seeks to operate programs that promote and encourage self-sufficiency. The Salvation Army has an unwavering commitment to help those who are economically and socially disadvantaged achieve a greater level of self-sufficiency by offering a wide range of social services and emergency relief programs. The Greater New York Division's 38 Corps Community Centers, located in the five boroughs of New York City, Long Island, and seven counties in the Lower Hudson Valley, work around the clock to offer food pantries and soup kitchens; rent, utility, and clothing assistance; after school programs and summer camps; adult education classes; music programs; seniors programs; and more. The Salvation Army's goal is to meet the urgent needs of low-income people suffering through hard times, and to offer services they can use to realize more stable and self-sufficient lives. The Salvation Army offers not simply a handout, but rather, a hand up. The Salvation Army's emergency assistance programs act as a gateway service; once inside, clients will meet with a caseworker who will link them into a vast network of social service programs, ensuring the individual's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs are sufficiently met. MISSION: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

“It’s like a good safe haven, this food pantry helps out a lot, it really does.” - Kim, food pantry recipient Thank you News 12 Brooklyn for stopping by our Brownsville Community Center to report on how we're serving vulnerable families in Brooklyn through pantry services. In 2023, we were able to provide food to over 600,000 individuals through our community center. So far this year, the number of people seeking assistance remains steady. “Over the past year, I've had the incredible opportunity to work as a digital media intern for The Salvation Army. This role has allowed me to dive deep into the world of digital marketing and content creation while contributing to a cause I deeply care about. From day one, I've been involved in various projects, from managing social media accounts to developing content to increasing our online presence. Balancing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines has taught me the value of organization and time management. I’m grateful to be an intern for The Salvation Army GNY, this internship has taught me many skills that I’ll utilize moving forward.” - Aniyah, Salvation Army GNY digital media intern. Every day, but especially on this #NationalInternDay, we're thankful that we get to work with young innovators like Aniyah. On top of maintaining top grades in high school, running track, volunteering at her local #SalvationArmy center in #PortJervis, and teaching young students piano, she assists the Development Department in showcasing our life changing programs, through the digital space. 📲 You're an amazing #intern Aniyah and we've loved learning from you as we work together. We can't wait to see where your ambitions and talents take you in the future! 🎓

Thank you Lynn Shaw for having Command Secretary, Major Margareta Ivarsson, on your show, Lynn's Warriors, to talk about our PEARL Anti Human Trafficking Program. 🙅♀️ There were talks about the scope of our outreach efforts throughout New York, educating the public about this issue, and how community plays an integral role with helping and healing for each individual who receives support from our program. "It's my responsibility to give back because everything in my life was never mine in the first place. The abundance in my life, it comes from God, He has blessed me with my company and success in real estate. That's why I choose to give back, and I love doing so, I value every opportunity to impact others' lives for the better. And there’s no greater organization to donate to, than The Salvation Army." - Samuel B. Baptista Haros, Entrepreneur and Real Estate Agent 💼 Samuel runs a business and sells real estate but chooses to spend his spare time volunteering at the Bronx Tremont Corps. He also donates to the community center and to world service funds on a monthly basis. 🌏 If it wasn’t for community focused business owners like Samuel, we wouldn’t be able to continue providing life changing services to our most vulnerable neighbors. Thank you, not only for your local impact, but for inspiring other entrepreneurs to make a difference by giving back as well. 🙏

Children at the Ridgewood Corps Childcare Center just graduated and will be moving on up to kindergarten! One of our amazing prek teachers, Indhira, had this to say about the emotions experienced for the teachers and staff during graduation time: "These babies started their educational journey with The Salvation Army and we have prepared them to take on whatever obstacle comes their way, as they leave us for kindergarten. They had so many firsts with us and grew so much in the two years they spent in our care. I’m teary-eyed and overwhelmed with emotions as we're ready to say our goodbyes. 20 years with The Salvation Army and I still get emotional with every group that comes through. I'm so thankful we get to invest in such wonderful kids every year." #Ridgewood #Queens #NewYork #PreK #Kindergarten #Education #Graduation #Growth #Community #SalvationArmy
