World Change Starts With Educated Children

About us

Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read is creating a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality. We are achieving this goal by helping children in historically low-income communities develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and by supporting girls as they build skills to succeed in school and negotiate key life decisions. We collaborate with governments and other partner organizations to deliver positive outcomes for children at scale. Room to Read has benefited more than 32 million children and has worked in 21 countries and in more than 49,000 communities, providing additional support through remote solutions that facilitate learning beyond the classroom. Room to Read aims to benefit 40 million children by 2025. Learn more at www.roomtoread.org

Transforming education in India: Room to Read's innovative cluster libraries are making room for more storybooks in more schools in the historically under-resourced Nshik district. By establishing welcoming classroom reading corners in schools that lack library space, and rotating book collections across clusters of primary schools, we're supporting educators to foster a love for reading. Discover how we're making literacy accessible, one cluster at a time: https://okt.to/iPfOCW #RoomToRead #LiteracyForAll #LibraryLove

"Young learners are now eager to borrow books and come to the library at every chance to read, without being asked to do so." – a Reading Champion teacher-support aid in South Africa Through South Africa's Reading Champions initiative, young adults become catalysts for change. A Presidential Employment Initiative managed by South Africa’s National Education Collaboration Trust, Reading Champions employs young adults as teacher aids in primary schools, where they help to engage students in reading activities and encourage library use. In partnership with the government, Room to Read has supported the training of these champions — approximately 60,000 so far — benefiting approximately 4.6 million children with effective reading resources while fostering a strong national reading culture.
