At Rivian, we love how tenacious and driven our interns are. They’re always ready to dive right in to tackle any challenge with curiosity and grit. So, this week our managers shared their appreciation with some handwritten notes of encouragement, but we don’t want to let it stop there. We wanted to change things up and give you the floor. If you have a Rivian intern that has inspired your team, provided invaluable insights, or brought fresh ideas or new perspectives to projects, take a second to share your appreciation. Tell them you appreciate them by dropping a note in the comments below. Share a specific example of how they made a difference. We know it’ll make their day! Happy National Intern Appreciation Day to all you #interns out there! #rivian | #adventurousforever | #rivianintern | #nationalinternday | #intern

Meet Lauren McKechnie and Claire McKechnie, Mechanical Design summer interns and San Francisco Bay Area identical twin sisters whose similarities run deep. They both attend Cornell, study mechanical engineering, work on their school’s Formula SAE racing team, play on the same club lacrosse team, and just so happen to be huge Taylor Swift fans. But this summer, they’ve discovered something that sets them apart: Voltage. They’re still both Mechanical Design interns, however Claire sits on the Electrical Hardware team in Palo Alto focusing on low voltage electronic control units (ECUs), while Lauren is working on high voltage inverters with the Electrical Power Conversion team in Southern CA.       “We always do similar things but it’s never exactly the same,” says Lauren. “Different variations. Different flavors. But it’s fun to work together, compare, and help each other out.” While their voltage interests may have diverged, their experiences as Rivian interns have been remarkably similar – both positive and enriching. “My team is amazing!” says Lauren. “They're so supportive and willing to help. No matter how many questions I throw at them. Working on a variety of projects has smoothly integrated me into the team and has allowed me to learn a lot about the drive unit system.” Claire shared, “I figured I'd be running simulations on a laptop or doing CAD drawings all day. Instead, I've gotten to do some really cool hands-on stuff! I've been working in the lab, setting up experiments and 3D printing for prototyping. That's exactly why I wanted to be a mechanical engineer – because I love getting my hands dirty and building things. So yeah, that's been a pleasant surprise for me.” Their advice for future Rivian interns? In the words of Taylor, “Just go for it or don’t, but don’t wait.” rivn.co/students #rivian | #adventurousforever | #rivianintern | #intern | #internship | #iykyk

Every time you drive and charge your Rivian, you help power our investments in clean energy projects. We’re committed to supporting 2 GW of clean power to enable 7 billion miles of renewable driving by 2030. 7 billion miles. That’s a lot of adventures. What’s a renewable mile? A “renewable mile” means for every kWh you charge (or mile you drive), we invest in an equivalent amount of high-impact renewable energy for the national grid.* We’ve invested in projects that maximize “3C” benefits for community, climate and conservation across the country, partnering with innovative companies like Pivot EnergyEmrgy Inc. and ARC Alternatives to accelerate the transition to a zero-emission electric grid. Here are a few highlights – Bringing affordable solar to families across rural Illinois, powering 164 million renewable R1 miles each year. Embracing low-impact hydropower for farming communities in the West, powering 550,000 renewable R1 miles each year. Reducing costs for SoCal public schools through rooftop solar, powering 65 million renewable R1 miles each year. Curious about our approach? Take a deeper dive at rivn.co/renewable_energy.    #rivian | #adventurousforever | #sustainability | #forever *Calculated based on R1 EPA efficiency ratings.

Meet MJ Jones, the kindest of kind, Rivian Sr. Field Delivery Guide based out of our Richmond, VA service center, who we had the pleasure to meet up with to talk all things vehicle delivery and to hear their experience being a non-binary individual at Rivian.     A self-described high energy person who always brings the party, MJ says, “I feed off the energy that comes with meeting people and introducing them to their Rivian. I love delivery because, in my opinion, it’s the customer’s happiest day. It’s almost like Christmas morning and I’m bringing people their presents. It keeps it exciting and fun for me!”    From the start, MJ’s gender expression at Rivian has been a point of relief and affirmation – it’s been nothing but positive. "When I applied, I used my legal name, but when the recruiter called, I answered as MJ," they explain. "Because my legal name differs, my recruiter asked if I wanted to change it in the system. This simple gesture meant a lot! Literally, from the first moment, I was given the chance to be myself at work." From that point on, subsequent interviewers and MJ's entire team used their preferred name and pronouns (they/them) correctly, including both close colleagues and daily acquaintances on the service center team.    A year in and their preference of pronouns has been welcomed with open arms. Nevertheless, there’s always room for education, “but that's just super easy to explain and just be like, ‘Hey, we're friends. Just do me this favor.’ It doesn't have to be some scary thing that you think it would be. I've had nothing but a good experience being nonbinary in this company and presenting that way.”    MJ recalls a time where they approached a coworker who had misgendered them: “I’d been letting it slide just because we are closer. I told him, ‘I just wanna let you know that I do identify as non-binary, and I would love if you could try using they/them pronouns with me.’ and he goes, ‘That is no problem at all. I'm so glad you told me and I will absolutely work on that. Please call it out if I ever say it incorrectly.’ It's just such a relief to have a conversation with somebody and it’s affirming when they continue to use the correct pronouns.”    Advice? MJ says, “I would say, be yourself. Come as you are. You're going to be accepted. People here will have your back no matter how you identify. And to any non-binary or queer folks looking into Rivian, we want you here! This is a company that truly cares about representation and backs it up with supporting its community members.”    Join us at rivn.co/RivianCareers.    #rivian | #adventurousforever | #foreverisforeveryone
