Without the generous support of community partners, like Moss Adams, we could not sustain the life-restoring work happening at Shepherd's Door. Thank you Moss Adams for your generous contributions!

About us
Portland Rescue Mission started in 1949 as a soup kitchen by the Burnside Bridge in Portland, Oregon. 75 years later, we're still known for providing hope and transforming lives for those battling homelessness, hunger, and addiction. Your support provides for urgent needs like food, shelter and clothing. And you help offer a powerful solution to the root causes of homelessness through addiction recovery, spiritual renewal and life skills training. A big thank you to Joe English from KATU News for stopping by our Burnside Shelter and spreading the word about our community room cooling center that has been serving our neighbors for the past few days during this heat wave! We still have a great need for bottled water or reusable water bottles. Donations can be made at any time and can be dropped off at the Burnside Shelter at 111 W. Burnside. You can also give financially to help support our neighbors in need. Please consider donating below. Thank you, Portland! https://lnkd.in/gNsG9ACs https://lnkd.in/g4Qk9NaR

Jessica Taylor Ph.D., President of Multnomah University, joined us this week at our Shepherd's Door location for a Q&A with the women of our community. Dr. Taylor brought a depth of life experience and heartfelt compassion to our participants as she answered hard-hitting questions. Our participants and staff felt uplifted and challenged by Dr. Taylor's faith and the stories of all she has overcome. We are so grateful for community partners who pour into our programs! Thank you.

Our work is on the front lines of the Fentanyl crisis. When we began to see a sharp increase in overdoses and the necessary use of Narcan by our staff, we implemented a unique detection system to make our public restrooms safer. Our front office is staffed 24/7 and is alerted with a blinking light when guests do not exit the bathroom after 10 minutes. Our highly-relational team is responsive, compassionate, and thus far have been able to save the lives of 4 individuals who otherwise would not have survived an overdose.
2024 Oregon Women’s Commission Woman of the Year | Vital Voices Visionary Fellow | Ask me about the intersection of "Transit" and "Homelessness"
It was a Keith Wilson LinkedIn post that drew me to Portland this week to tour the Portland Rescue Mission's innovative bathroom overdose detection system. As we look and assess our own downtown bathrooms at Lane Transit District (LTD), it is important to be aware of compassionate and safe design criteria in the era of Fentanyl. Thanks to Leah Hay and Tim Desper for providing me with such an insightful and experiential tour of the site and detailing the mechanics behind their innovative structures of care.
