Today we hosted hardhat tours of the construction at Hickory Hope Apartments, an affordable rental housing project that will provide 121 new homes adjacent to the entrance of Southwood when completed. New homes are expected to be completed as early as spring 2025. Thanks to some fun drone footage, you can take your own virtual tour of the busy site!

About us
Piedmont Housing Alliance creates housing opportunities and builds community through education, lending and development. Our goal is to ensure that everyone in our community can have a place to call home. Founded in 1983, Piedmont Housing has helped more than 800 families become homeowners through financial counseling, education and down payment assistance. We have deployed more than $7 million in down payment assistance to home buyers, developed 64 single family homes and created and now own and/or manage 395 rental homes. We are a US Treasury certified Community Development Financial Institution, a US Dept of Housing & Urban Development approved Housing Counseling Agency, and state-certified Community Housing Development Organization.

On Friday, US Senator Mark Warner visited the Kindlewood community in downtown Charlottesville to deliver a $650K check in federal funding dedicated to creating a permanent home for Piedmont Housing Alliance’s Financial Opportunity Center & Housing Hub. Why is the FOC so important? Executive Director of Piedmont Housing Sunshine Mathon said, “It’s a one-stop shop for people to come for housing or financial related opportunities … for coaching, counseling, and getting information about opportunities for down payment assistance.” See the whole story on 29News WVIR-TV.
