About us
Petaluma River Park is a rare riverfront parkland in the heart of downtown Petaluma. It comprises approximately 35 acres of undeveloped land over two sites: on the McNear Peninsula and directly across the McNear Channel at 500 Hopper Street. Our mission is to meet our vital need for shared space that connects people, art, and nature. When we succeed, Petaluma River Park will be a vibrant, welcoming place that fosters a love of nature, sparks creativity, and unifies our community for generations to come.

We are very excited to release the draft plans for the future River Park this month to gain public input. One thing you don't have to worry about when looking at the draft plans? #Accessibility. The future Petaluma River Park will feature accessible pathways, playgrounds, and gathering areas to ensure it serves people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when the public input survey is live: https://lnkd.in/gMjhwAAg #accessibilitypride #parks #petaluma #petalumariverpark #sonomacounty
This Disability Pride Month, we have accessible parks on the mind, as nature is for everyone! What do parks that serve people of all abilities look like? - Trails with appropriate slopes and surfaces, ramps, handrails, and curb cuts to ensure wheelchair access; - Accessible parking spaces, restrooms, and picnic areas; - Maps and signage with braille, large-print text and audio recordings; - Training staff in disability awareness and etiquette. Above all, we should be prioritizing the voices of those who live with a disability in the planning and decision-making processes for our parks! Our friends at Petaluma River Park are currently seeking public input on their draft plans for the River Park, which feature accessible pathways, playgrounds, and gathering areas. Visit their website (https://lnkd.in/epaHV39M) to learn more about how you can weigh in. #nationaldisabilityindependenceday #disabilityinclusion #land4all

We're excited to announce that our Executive Director, Seair Lorentz, will be speaking on the panel "Inspiration through Implementation: The State Coastal Conservancy’s Impact" alongside Amy Hutzel, Executive Officer at California State Coastal Conservancy, and Nicole Braddock, Executive Director at Solano Land Trust at the #TogetherConference by TOGETHER Bay Area on May 8th! Seair will discuss the Petaluma River Park Foundation's partnership with the State Coastal Conservancy, that is resulting in an equitable and creative park planning process through an attempt to mitigate the impacts of green gentrification. We're honored to be part of this important conversation and look forward to sharing insights and stories of collaborative conservation efforts with funding and technical assistance from the California State Coastal Conservancy. https://lnkd.in/gaNUEsyW #PetalumaRiverPark #EnvironmentalConservation #CommunityImpact #TogetherBayArea

Last week, the Petaluma River Park Foundation hosted a workshop engaging key community stakeholders to provide updates on our latest discoveries. During this session, which included technical experts, government officials, and community leaders, we unveiled our comprehensive "Spirit of the Park," a report encapsulating the guiding principles of the River Park along with our discovery findings. This report is now on our website: https://lnkd.in/gnwGYVVH. With generous support from the California State Coastal Conservancy, the community is designing the Petaluma River Park from the ground up, with deep and meaningful engagement from those whose voices have historically been excluded from the planning of public spaces and parks. Our dedicated community engagement programs and workshops, including the one held last week, are integral to this process. Thank you to the Petaluma Women's Club for graciously sponsoring this workshop, to those who were invited, and to all who contributed to the day's dialogue, including representatives from Aqus Cafe Foundry Wharf, Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma-Marin, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California Flora Nursery, California State Coastal Conservancy, California Trout, California State Legislature, Café Puente, Children's Museum of Sonoma County, Cinnabar School District, Cool Petaluma, COTS, Creative Sonoma, Daily Acts Organization, Dia de los Muertos Petaluma, Eames Institute, Friends of the Petaluma River, Life On Earth Art, Mahoney Architects & Interiors, Mentor Me Petaluma, Merlin Arborist Group, US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Prunuske Chatham, Inc., Peter E Haas Jr. Family Fund, Petaluma City Schools, Petaluma Educational Foundation, Petaluma Garden Club, Petaluma Health Care District, Petaluma Museum Association, Petaluma People Services Center, Petaluma Small Craft Center, Petaluma Wetlands Alliance, Petaluma Women’s Club, Point Blue Conservation Science, Questa Engineering Corporation, RAIZES COLLECTIVE, Trout Unlimited Redwood Empire, Releaf Petaluma, Sandcastle Theater Company, Santa Rosa Junior College, County of Sonoma Human Resources - Board of Supervisors and Parks, Sonoma County Conservation Action, Sonoma County Farm Bureau, Stephanie McAllister Landscape Architecture, The Hydro, Urban Chat, and WTB-TAM.
