NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
About us
The New York Power Authority is the nation's largest state public power organization, with 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity we produce is clean renewable hydropower. NYPA is a leader in promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and electric transportation initiatives. Our lower-cost power production and electricity purchases support hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout the state. Our business customers range from Fortune 100 giants competing in international markets to small manufacturing or service firms that are vital to local economies. We sell power to government agencies; to community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives; to job-producing companies; to private utilities for resale—without profit—to their customers; and to neighboring states, under federal requirements. Today on #NationalInternDay, we recognize and celebrate all of the interns we have working across the Empire State. Every year, we host undergraduate, master's and PhD students in our Developmental Intern program, as well as students from the Pathways in Technology Early College High School program. These young people are spending this summer learning about and working on projects focused on #renewables, #transmission and #environmentaljustice in preparation for future #STEM careers. Our interns of today are future energy leaders of tomorrow – we value their hard work, fresh perspectives and desire to learn more about their areas of study. Thank you for all your hard work!

NYPA & the #EnvironmentalJustice team kicked off a week of fun summer learning through an interactive #STEM camp with El Puente at their Independence Towers Leadership Center in Brooklyn yesterday. NYPA President & CEO Justin E. Driscoll, along with NYS Senator Julia Salazar, Assemblymember Emily Gallagher & El Puente Executive Director Marco A. Carrión spent time with students, speaking to them about the importance of being environmental advocates for their community. The students got to act as #engineers to light the #NYC skyline and the George Washington Bridge and built a mock #electric grid to learn how energy is transmitted throughout #NewYorkState.
