Great piece in the Las Vegas Sun by our partner Communities In Schools of Nevada, who exemplifies the power of collaboration in securing resources that benefit Nevadans. "Here is what is different today as a result of our collaboration on the Full-Service Community Schools grant: more than 6,000 students in six schools in three Nevada school districts will have a stronger suite of community resources to support them as they realize their potential and become college, career, and community ready graduates." -Tami Hance-Lehr #FederalGrantsAtWork https://lnkd.in/ewUfJFNX

How much money should you request in a federal grant application? Here are a few tips: 💡 Though it may be tempting, do not automatically pursue the maximum amount possible. If the grant program is recurring, research past awards and calculate the mean, median, and mode amounts for past grant cycles. 💡 Your organization’s history plays an important part in determining an appropriate grant amount. Grant reviewers consider how the requested amount compares to an organization’s existing budget. If the grant amount overpowers the size and scalability of your organization, it is likely not a good fit. 💡 Learn more in our Guide to Preparing a Federal Grant Budget: https://buff.ly/3RhVmhc #GrantBudgeting #FederalGrantPreparation #GrantProposalTips

There are four key types of federal grants: 1. Competitive or discretionary grants are awarded on the caliber of the application assessed according to an established scoring system. 2. Continuation grants extend existing program funding that is scheduled to expire and may be competitive or non-competitive. 3. Formula grants issue funding by following formulas based on criteria included in the legislation and policies. Formula grants are non-competitive. 4. Pass-through grants are funds issued by a federal agency to a prime recipient that are transferred as subawards to other groups known as subrecipients. Subawards may be competitive or noncompetitive. #GrantFunding #NonprofitGrants
