"On March 12, 1990, activists cast aside their wheelchairs and mobility aides and crawled up the steps of the U.S. Capitol in support of the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Signed into law four months later, on July 26, 1990, the ADA protects the rights of people with disabilities in all aspects of public life, including employment, transportation, communications, and access to government programs and services. "Today marks the 34th anniversary of this landmark legislation, and the efforts to remove barriers to inclusion for people with disabilities are still going strong and continue to evolve. The NCUA offers resources, such as the Reasonable Accommodation Program and the Disability Solutions Desk, to provide employees like you with support and answers for disability questions, concerns, or challenges. "More than 1 in 4 adults in the United States has some type of disability — visible or invisible, temporary or permanent. So, this year, the NCUA once again reaffirms its commitment to prohibit discrimination and create an inclusive work environment for all employees. Building an inclusive workplace and improving access for all is everyone’s responsibility," NCUA Chairman Todd M. Harper said in a message to employees recognizing the Americans with Disabilities Act.
