"It is a huge honor and very humbling. I feel that I am following in the footsteps of giants when I look at the list of individuals who have received this award -- some of whom I've admired, some I've collaborated with and some who have mentored me over the years," Karen Hauer, MD, PhD. 🌟 As NBME's 2024 John P. Hubbard Award recipient, Hauer was recognized for her significant contributions to the field of #medical education research and #assessment. 💡Do you know a trailblazing researcher or mentor? Established in 2023, the Emerging Innovators Grants Program empowers early- to mid-career faculty, researchers and program leaders to explore visionary ideas and make a lasting impact on the medical education landscape. Each year, four to five #awards of up to $25,000 each are given to research teams to push the boundaries of medical #education and assessment locally and/or nationally. The 2023 theme for this program was Promoting Equitable Assessment in Medical Education. 🌟 Featured Project: Javeed Sukhera MD PhD FRCPC was one of the 2023 recipients. His project, titled “Promoting Equitable Assessment Through Co-Creation and Digital Knowledge Translation,” aims to translate existing knowledge on equitable assessment into a digital faculty development toolkit that will co-create a digital guide with active engagement by patient partners and health professions students from minoritized groups. 🌐 The 2024 application cycle is open now! Do your multiple-choice questions include irrelevant difficulty or provide clues that benefit “test-wise” examinees? These common flaws are challenging to identify but can have a big impact when it comes to assessing student mastery and facilitating learning. NBME® Item-Writing Workshops teach you how to spot and eliminate elements in your #questions that reduce their effectiveness in measuring relevant knowledge. Enroll in a virtual #workshop today to learn more about this topic and other strategies to improve your item-writing skills: https://lnkd.in/gyzHrKBv #signup

NBME’s contributions to medical #educators and #researchers begin with faculty development opportunities for early career professionals through the Strategic Educators Enhancement Fellowship (SEEF) and NBME Invitational Conference for Educators (NICE). Over 150 educators from 90 medical #schools across the country joined us for the second biennial NICE on June 24-26, 2024. 🔷 The conference benefits assistant professors by providing interactive sessions and item-writing workshops for #assessment development skills. Session topics included training human raters in performance-based assessment, using ChatGPT in medical education, introducing measurement concepts and incorporating #diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) test development. 🔗 Learn more about NICE: https://lnkd.in/gktV2zyF 🔷 NICE also provided an opportunity to hear a panel discussion from NBME’s first cohort of SEEF Fellows about their journey and research outcomes. Our second cohort, who we welcomed in the spring, also were in attendance to learn and connect with the first cohort! 🔗 Learn more about the newest SEEF Fellows: https://lnkd.in/ezrGfThk
