pspspsps, that’s hello in lynx 🐱 Did you know there are 2 lynx species in North America: the Canada lynx and the bobcat? The Canada lynx prefers snowy climates and feeds almost exclusively on the snowshoe hare, while bobcats can be found in warmer areas throughout the U.S. All lynx species are known for their short, "bobbed" tails. The Canada lynx has larger paws, longer hind legs, and longer ear tufts than a bobcat, making it better adapted for running, jumping, and hunting through deep snow. ❄️ While bobcats are more common, lynx populations in the lower 48 States remain low due to historic trapping and ongoing habitat loss. Lynxes and bobcats tend to "directly register" - meaning they track their back paws in their front paw prints to remain stealthy. 🐾 #wildlife #conservation #lynx #funfacts #nature #science

Nailed Itttttt 🔨🦈 #SharkWeek Did you know that hammerhead sharks use their head to trap stingrays by pinning them to the seafloor? Their mouths are on the bottom of their heads and their eye placement, on each end of their very wide heads, allows them to scan more area than any other shark. Electrical signals, which living creatures' bodies give off, are picked up by their sensors allowing them to sense movement and pinpoint the prey's location. They prefer to go on hunts alone and can locate stingrays that hide under the sand on the seafloor, utilizing their incredible sensors and ability to pin them with their specialized head. #sharks #hammerhead #sharkweek #oceans #funfacts

What's Greater Than Great Whites? 🦈 #SharkWeek While Jaws cemented the great white as the most well-known shark species, there are hundreds of shark species in a mindblowing diversity of sizes, shapes, and behaviors. Despite what you think, shark bite fatalities, while terrifying fuel for the imagination, only occur about six times per year. That’s in comparison to the 100 million sharks that are killed by humans every year! Whale Hello There 🐳💦 #SharkWeek Did you know whale sharks spend nearly eight hours a day gulping around 10,000 gallons of ocean water? Since they are the size of a school bus (nearly 40 feet long) it seems like they could eat whatever they want, but they’re really after plankton—microscopic plants and animals. Small fish attempt to avoid them by swimming in large ball formations for protection (but their gigantic mouths easily gulp them up). Fun Fact: Whale sharks have microscopic scales that cover their massive eyeballs. One whale shark was recorded to have over 3,000 of them around its iris! #sharks #whaleshark #funfacts #sharkweek #oceans
