On this day in 1790, the first U.S. #patent was granted to Samuel Hopkins for a process of making potash, an ingredient used in fertilizer. In the invention space, we’ve come a long way from potash. We’ve also tremendously evolved how we organize intellectual property information and surface our inventions to others. NREL has partnered with DOE Office of Technology Transitions and more than 20 DOE national labs to bring you a new way to search, discover, and connect with our innovations: VIPS, the Visual Intellectual Property Search. Whether you're a tech scout, #entrepreneur, researcher, academic, or business leader, VIPS empowers you to find the tech and software solutions you need by searching in a single, powerful database of innovation. Try your first search today at https://bit.ly/3zNZX4S and read the full story at https://bit.ly/4fhvnkG.

Distributed wind energy could go a long way toward powering the country’s rural small businesses and farmers. A new round of funding is giving manufacturers and suppliers of small- to medium-sized distributed wind turbines the boost they need to make distributed wind more cost competitive, reliable, grid compatible, and accessible, especially in rural and agricultural areas. Meet the 2024 awardees of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Competitiveness Improvement Project who are building up deployment of onsite wind: bit.ly/2024-CIP-selections

Approximately 1.6 million light-duty electric vehicles (#EV) were sold in the US last year, a significant increase from 600,000 only two years earlier. And those sales figures are expected to keep climbing. To keep pace with the accelerated adoption of EVs, a national network of private and public charging ports offering convenient, reliable, and affordable charging options will be required to secure long-term buy-in from drivers. NREL researchers are identifying the road forward to boosting charging confidence. https://bit.ly/3yreUcM
