The Department of Defense’s voluntary pledge to increase its utilization of the AbilityOne® Program was a great first step, but #Congress can take it further by making this goal a reality. The #DOD and its related agencies hold #AbilityOne contracts with nonprofit agencies across the country, empowering employees who take great pride in supporting our nation’s security. Expanding career opportunities for people who are blind or have significant disabilities means they can achieve their personal version of the American Dream, equipped with the necessary accommodations and support. It's the right thing to do, and now is the right time to act. Why a 1% AbilityOne Program Utilization Goal for the DOD is Essential 👇 NIB and its associated nonprofit agencies have focused their advocacy efforts this year on a mandatory 1% AbilityOne Program utilization goal for the #DepartmentOfDefense. This initiative aims to enhance #employmentopportunities for people who are blind or have significant disabilities. In our latest video, Lise Pace, executive vice president of Bosma Enterprises, discusses the importance of this goal. “This legislation is critically important. We know there’s a high unemployment rate among people who are blind or have significant disabilities; there’s just not employment out there for people. What we can do is have a statutory goal for DOD that would increase employment by at least 20,000 jobs for this population that’s underserved.” Watch the video to understand how this legislation could make a substantial impact! #ChampionEmploymentGrowth #DisabilityEmployment #Blindess #LowVision #NIBAdvocacy"
