2023 Venture deal value: US - down 37% YoY (after being down ~30% the year before...) Great Lakes region - down ~60% 😳 (mainly felt in Illinois) Michigan - down 10% (coming off two record-high years) Thanks to the Michigan Venture Capital Association for putting together another great annual report! This information, combined with broader data from Crunchbase, gives you a great sense for how Michigan is performing vs the broader great lakes region and the country as a whole. Detroit is one of the fastest growing startup ecosystems in the world! In the last year, Detroit ranked second only to Dubai in growth among global startup ecosystems. 2023 had the most capital raised by Michigan-based funds of the past decade, with four funds raising around $500M. Assembly Ventures was founded on the belief that Detroit is home to some of the most innovative ideas, technologies, and entrepreneurs. We are proud to say that Our Next Energy (ONE), one of Assembly's portfolio companies, was an integral piece of this growth. “Key deals that drove the total of VC invested included the $300.0 million funding of battery tech developer Our Next Energy (ONE) the $109.0 million infusion in autonomous transport software platform May Mobility, and a $75.0 100% million financing of cybersecurity provider Censys,” the report states.
