The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Saint Paul, MN, one of the U.S.’ leading not-for-profit performing arts centers, elevated its audio capabilities with a new #MeyerSound LINA system, provided by Lake Forest, IL-based supplier TC Furlong Inc. Founded in 1985, the Ordway is home to several arts organizations, including the Minnesota Opera, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Schubert Club. The bustling center serves 400,000 people annually with nearly 500 performances in its Music Theater and Concert Hall. The Ordway’s Concert Hall, which received the upgrade, opened in 2015, replacing a smaller venue, the 306-seat McKnight Theater. The 1,100-seat venue hosts diverse programming from orchestral music to spoken word to Broadway Musicals in Concert, rock, jazz, and world music. Designed by renowned acoustician Paul Scarborough and Tim Carl of HGA Architects, to support classical music, the hall exhibits a 1.8-second reverb time and features dampeners that allow acoustic flexibility. But like most venues designed for acoustic music, the space presents challenges for managing amplified music. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gsE_DC2e Photo credit: Lauren B. Photography

The Taipei Performing Arts Center fully upgraded to feature a surround sound theater powered by #MeyerSound solutions, the first theater in Taiwan to use our Spacemap Go spatial sound design and mixing tool. The system features LINA very compact linear line array loudspeakers, 900-LFC compact low-frequency control elements, MM-4XP miniature self-powered loudspeakers, ULTRA-X20 compact wide coverage loudspeakers, and more, integrated by our Taiwanese distributor To Gather. “It’s very exciting to have this system in Taiwan and it make life much easier for doing spatial audio," said TPAC Manager Kevin Wang. "I hope our step can influence to other venue in Taiwan.” The center is host to the Taipei Arts Festival and Taipei Children's Arts Festival, along with stage productions, workshops, talks, courses, tours, and a wide range of programs and activities for all ages.

Popular Grateful Dead cover bands from coast to coast are powering their interpretations of the iconic San Francisco band’s 59-year-old songbook with PANTHER large-format linear line array loudspeaker systems this summer. Dark Star Jubilee kicked off the summer in May in Thornville, OH, featuring Dark Star Orchestra, Greensky Bluegrass, Melvin Seals, JGB, and many more. This past weekend, Dark Star Orchestra, Melvin Seals, and JGB made an appearance at the Rex Foundation’s benefit concert at The William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre at UC Berkeley, and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead headlined Peach at the Beach in Atlantic City, NJ. “I’ve been an audio engineer for almost 40 years. I’ve mixed on myriad sound systems and I’ve never experienced anything like the PANTHER rig,” said Dark Star Orchestra FOH Engineer Cotter Michaels. “It is so accurate and powerful at the same time, it is a pleasure to mix on. As a mixer, it is always great when you can make it warm and clear simultaneously. The PANTHER rig makes that immensely easier to achieve. The sheer power, accuracy and smoothness of it is quite astounding. I wish I could use it all the time!” The PANTHER systems for Dark Star Jubilee and Peach at the Beach were provided by DBS Audio Systems, Inc., and UltraSound LLC powered the audio at the Rex Foundation benefit. This is the latest edition of our “People Behind the Product” series, which spotlights the incredible people who shape our diverse #MeyerSound team around the world. Meet Design Services Supervisor Alex Harbaugh! Alex has been a key member of our Design Services team, designing systems with MAPP 3D and providing support for our customers all over the world. We asked Alex a few questions to learn more about both his work and his life outside of Meyer Sound. Question: What is your favorite Meyer Sound memory? Answer: My first year at Meyer Sound, one day there were signs all over our building warning of “extreme high SPL” testing, simulating rocket launches after hours, and that was no joke! I stayed late that day to experience a bit of that, and those kinds of activities around the factory keep reminding me of the special place we’re at. Q: What was your first job? A: I was a Sonic Drive-in Carhop. Yes, I wore the skates. Q: What book is on your bedside table? A: I’m currently reading “Acceptance” from Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy. Q: What is an achievement you are proud of? A: I’m proud of getting the note, “No notes.” Q: What is your favorite gift you’ve given someone? A: I designed custom Lego sets of our Bluehorn for the tech support team a few years ago Q: Sweet or savory? A: I prefer savory. Q: Do you have any pets? A: I have one blind cat named Romulus. Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you? A: I have a really good string vibrato – my father is an orchestra teacher and I’ve played string instruments my entire life.
