Yesterday, the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ILASLA) focused on supporting emerging professionals through a specially curated event at the Chicago Roof Deck & Garden. The evening kicked off with a moderated panel aimed at inspiring and guiding new talents in the industry, followed by a relaxed networking session with food, drinks, and games. It was an invaluable opportunity for budding Landscape Architects to connect and grow. On Saturday, June 22, at 8:30 pm, two EF1 tornados struck the Lake Geneva area. One originated in Delavan, moving southeast before ending in Williams Bay. The second tornado originated on the south side of Lake Geneva in Fontana, moving northeast across the lake before finally ending near Lake Como. Both produced winds ranging from 100 to 105 mph. Mariani has served our Lake Geneva area clients for over 20 years. From our Kenosha location, our teams were on-site within 1 hour of the storm hitting to assist in cleanup efforts, working until nearly midnight. On Sunday, June 23, additional emergency service requests started coming in. Our crews were deployed and on-site by 9 am. They worked to clear downed branches blocking driveways, debris, and personal belongings scattered across yards. Cleanup efforts are ongoing at many sites throughout the week. We stand with the community. We are honored to serve such a special and beautiful place. #marianilandscape #LakeGenevaWI #LakeGenevaWisconsin #FontanaWI #WilliamsBayWI #Walworthcounty

At Mariani, we have many examples of families working together. To celebrate Father’s Day, here is one of those examples for a very special Mariani Profile. In the heart of Mariani, we find Javier S. and Jessica S., a father-daughter team who bring their unique talents to the table. Javier, with the company since 1997, has climbed from crew member to Production Coordinator, responsible for overseeing multiple crews and ensuring quality work. His favorite aspect of the job? “Seeing the satisfaction of the clients' faces with their property.” Jessica, much newer to the company with a tenure of almost 2 years, works as a Purchasing Assistant. Her daily tasks involve handling purchase orders and overseeing plant change orders. The highlight of her role? “The planters are my absolute favorite; once in a while, Bad Bunny would hop around outside my window.” Their work relationship has had a notable impact on their bond. Javier notes, “It impacted our relationship positively by building this beautiful bond. I get to see my daughter flourish.” Jessica echoes this sentiment, stating, “The bond I share with my father has been greatly strengthened by our experiences. His hard work and dedication have instilled in me a deep appreciation for him and all that he does.” Both have shared memorable moments at work, from surprise lunch dates to birthday celebrations with flowers and balloons, showcasing their close-knit relationship. When pondering the idea of swapping roles, Javier prefers his current position, enjoying the outdoor spaces and direct communication with clients. Jessica, however, is enthusiastic about the idea of shadowing her father, saying, “I would love to be his mini minion. If I had an opportunity to shadow my father as a Production coordinator, I’d say yes.” Through simple interactions and shared experiences, Javier and Jessica’s story at Mariani is not just about their professional roles but a deeper connection fostered in an environment where family and work blend seamlessly. #marianilandscape #landscapeprofessional #greenindustry #fathersday #fathersday2024

Last week, we laced up our sneakers and joined thousands of other participants for the exciting J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge in Grant Park. It was our team's second appearance at this massive event, and we're thrilled to report that it was nothing short of spectacular! Covering a 3.5-mile course, the event wasn't just about the race; it was a celebration of community, camaraderie, and the collective spirit of companies coming together. Our team members met up before the start and continued the fun after crossing the finish line. Thank you to everyone at Mariani who participated. Each step taken was a testament to our team's dedication and spirit. Let's continue to push boundaries, support each other, and embrace every opportunity to connect outside the office. #marianilandscape #greenindustry #landscapeprofessionals #jpmorgancorporatechallenge

Name: Joyce Yuen Position: Client Representative Time at Mariani: 2 ½ years Favorite thing about my job: I love it when my clients reach out to me when they have any questions or concerns because it shows that they trust Mariani to find a solution. In celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, what unique perspectives do you feel you bring to Mariani and the landscape profession? I am proud of my Chinese American heritage. I believe that AAPI representation is so important, especially nowadays, as we continue to see incidents of AAPI hate and violence in America. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made significant contributions to all professions with their tenacity, dedication, and strong work ethic. I am the first person in my family to be born in the U.S. My parents were separated for 10 years due to immigration laws – my father was in the U.S. while my mother and 2 brothers were in Hong Kong. Once my family was reunited, I was born 9 months later. 😊 What advice would you give to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders considering a career in this field? There are so many opportunities for AAPIs in the landscaping profession. Although landscaping is not traditionally a career field that AAPIs gravitate towards, I feel that no matter what your expertise or skill level, there is a place for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and room to grow. Favorite things to do away from the job: I like to find opportunities to volunteer, especially with animal rescues. Also, yoga has been a big part of my life. Favorite memory that happened here: While on my way to meet my manager at a client’s property, he spotted one of our client’s dogs that had escaped from their backyard. We were able to call the dog by name and coax him back home safely. We develop a relationship with our client’s pets. Final thought: Although there's so much more growth needed in the areas of diversity and inclusiveness in the landscaping industry – I see Mariani as being a leader in bringing those changes forward. #aapiwomenlead #aapiheritagemonth #aapi #marianilandscape #landscapeprofessional #greenindustry
