It's time to move on... Is it, though? People ask - why do you always bring up caregiving and grief - you're a healthcare person, global health focused - it's time to leave this and move on. Hmm, I'm not sure it is! Ask your team, your colleagues, your neighbors... there are more of us here facing caregiving and loss than we may want to accept. It’s an area requires an active conversation, with influence and courageous decisions in our “day jobs” based on what we experience while caring during our "off time". Because as we professionalize the care economy, we may lose our connection to what empathetic support requires and what the reality of engagement needs. For me…The intensity of end of life caregiving and grief dramatically changed everything.. so much so, that I couldn't see who I was anymore... That's how it felt when caregiving was at its height, and even more so, once it was done. When caregiving was done, I had to rebuild everything - how I felt, who I thought I was, what voice was authentically mine, where would it matter, how to re/introduce myself again to society. Wow that’s a lot! Many people forget that because of caregiving I was isolated much longer than most as the pandemic was easing.. which meant I forgot how to start again. And when I did the first world had already moved on. Lisa was a huge help in sorting through grief, shaking off being home bound, and finding voice and pathway back to "life".
