Leveling the playing field in tech.
About us
The Kapor Center is building a future where the tech industry makes a positive impact on culture, society and the economy. We manifest the promise of technology by making the field more diverse, inclusive and better equipped to address society’s tough challenges and big opportunities. Right now there’s an unfair system stagnating innovation and hindering success in tech for Black, Latinx and women entrepreneurs. We challenge this system by educating, connecting and investing in those who bring new ideas, voices and innovations to the table, inspired by their own lived experience. The problem of diversity and inclusion in tech is complex and there’s no easy solution. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to closing the gaps in the leaky tech pipeline by understanding the causes, designing solutions and leading change. Our pioneering work ranges from education and community building to research and investing. And we help others do the same so that the future of our field reflects the experience and diverse genius of our country.

Chief Technology Community Officer at Kapor Center | Inclusive Tech Ecosystem Builder & Emerging Tech Policy Advocate
Had a special way to celebrate my official 8 year anniversary at Kapor Center -> by continuing to invest in the development & acceleration of inclusive tech pathways & ecosystem in emerging tech such as #AI at White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Advancing Public Service in the Tech Ecosystem event. Kapor Foundation announced close to $1.5M towards public interest technology that centers the communities most impacted and advocates for responsible, ethical, equitable #AI in service of our communities biggest needs - at a critical time in our generation in challenging social - political- tech environment. This is the time to continue to double down on advocating for responsible, ethical, equitable AI & tech. Honored to be part of this work alongside foundations Ford Foundation Siegel Family Endowment Pivotal Ventures The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation Omidyar Network, U.S. Deputy CTO Deirdre Mulligan. Special shoutout to Andreen Soley Afua Bruce whom I met almost 8 years who were leading PIT work. Full circle moment! ❤️

📣 📣 We’re thrilled to announce new funding from Cognizant, GitLab Foundation, Kapor Foundation (Kapor Center), and Walmart. This support will scale Work Shift’s coverage of AI and economic opportunity, deepening our coverage of how new technologies are reshaping learning and work. You’ve already seen some of this expanded coverage—whether it’s Margaret Moffett digging into the potential reach of ChatGPT Edu or Colleen Connolly reporting on dozens of community colleges building AI programs with a boost from Big Tech. The new funding also has supported the launch of The Cusp, a podcast hosted by Paul Fain and featuring interviews with decision-makers, experts, and innovators at the forefront of how AI is transforming the ways we learn and work. And there’s much more to come as we continue to expand our coverage of #AI and economic #opportunity. It’s hard to get beyond the hype and 30K-foot views of AI’s impact on students and workers, especially people of color and those who are historically underserved. Investments in independent journalism are essential to ensure that these stories are told with depth, accuracy, and integrity—and we can’t wait to continue producing stories that inform conversations and drive meaningful change. We’re grateful for supporters who understand the value of independent, nonpartisan journalism, and who are committed to letting us pursue stories with no agenda other than to find what’s notable and newsworthy. #independentnews #highered #work https://lnkd.in/d4NnwtsG
