To combat online scamming, Meta has recently removed 63,000 accounts involved in sextortion scams on Instagram. IJM has supported these efforts by training law enforcement in Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire to respond to reports of scamming. “Project Boost” is a collaboration between IJM, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and Meta, with additional support from INTERPOL, the U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (DOJ-CEOS) and others. We applaud the effort of partners to strengthen global and local efforts to fight criminals exploiting children and scamming victims worldwide. Read: https://lnkd.in/erZhnUf7

Today on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Senate overwhelmingly passed a historic piece of legislation that will further #protectkidsonline. While this is a step in the right direction, more must be done by Congress and the U.S. tech sector. Read IJM's Nate King's latest blog post to learn more then ask #Congress to act now to protect children into the future: ijm.org/act #EndHumanTrafficking

Shocking news: A new report by the International Labour Organization revealed that the annual profits from human trafficking have surged to US$ 236 billion. This represents a staggering 37% increase in illegal profits since the last report in 2014*. The problem of human trafficking is growing, but so is our resolve to combat it. We won’t stop until we see a world where traffickers can no longer profit from the suffering of others. On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, join a global movement of advocates who are fighting to put human trafficking out of business for good. Online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) plagues communities worldwide. The Philippines has been identified as a global epicenter for live-streamed sexual abuse. Girls and boys are forced to perform sex acts requested by the viewer live via webcam. IJM works with survivors, local partners, tech companies and the Philippine and U.S. Governments in the global fight to end OSEC. It's a #fighttothefinish, and it will take all of us becoming aware and taking action. Go to ijm.org/fight to learn how to join the fight to end OSEC. *WeProtect, 2023 **IJM, 2023

Human trafficking and domestic abuse leave deep scars—physical, emotional and psychological—that can take years to heal. Survivors walk a long and strenuous road to recovery. The past 25 years of working directly with survivors of abuse and trauma around the world have taught us that one of the most critical aspects of ensuring the best outcomes for trafficking and violence survivors is access to trauma-informed care. Read our blog to learn more about how IJM staff and partners help ensure survivors can begin a pathway of healing and restoration: https://lnkd.in/epNFSdrC

Last week, IJM joined our partner, Brave Movement, at their #BehindTheScreen film screening in London. This powerful film tells the stories of four survivors of online sexual exploitation - including Saanika Kodial (pictured) - and outlines urgent actions needed to #ProtectKidsOnline. The screening marked just over 100 days until the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children. This is a crucial opportunity to elevate violence against children as a global agenda item and accelerate progress toward ending all forms of violence against children. IJM and 50+ child protection organizations including Together for Girls, CARE, ChildFund International, International Rescue Committee, Save the Children US, & UNICEF USA urge The White House to ensure high-level U.S. representation and engagement at the conference.
