It's been a year since our team unveiled our foundation's new name. We reintroduced ourselves as Inatai Foundation, a name that better reflected the ways we wanted to show up for Washington's brilliant, vibrant, and powerful communities. To celebrate this milestone, we're sharing this reminder on how to pronounce inatai, a Chinuk Wawa word that means “across” or “other side." We hold tremendous gratitude to the Chinook Nation for granting us permission to use inatai as our name. Read the story behind the change: https://lnkd.in/gQfsV_T7

Being in relationship is integral to building community power and we want to help you do that through sponsorships. We're proud to support events and gatherings that have a focus on equity and racial justice, including virtual and hybrid ones. If you know of a nonprofit in Washington that's planning an event in the coming months, let them know about our sponsorship opportunities! We accept applications for events at least 60 calendar days out. We're seeing some familiar faces in Philanthropy Northwest's 2023 annual report! We can definitely appreciate the emphasis on collective learning, grounding yourself in your network, and discovering your collective vision (including some shared values!). Congratulations on another impactful year supporting Washington's communities. https://lnkd.in/gszskdkJ

Showcasing integrity and kindness to all people is a foundation of the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association (SERA), according to founder Michael Brown. SERA supports the East Central Spokane community by centering and celebrating Black joy by way of their various youth programs - including a delicious soul food restaurant that doubles as a job training program, a summer basketball camp, and an annual "big picnic" fundraiser in the park. The organization is currently gearing up for their annual fundraiser on August 10, where they hope to bring people together to show that "disadvantaged families can come together not just to learn, but to dream, to play and to realize that their environments do not define who they can become." https://loom.ly/bDMbSkk

“Now, we need people to lean in, because when it gets rough, instead of moving into despair, we need people to invest in an organization that’s building more.” Lavender Rights Project executive director Jaelynn Scott wants us all to know that our collective liberation cannot happen if basic human needs aren't met. Under her leadership, Lavender Rights Project has grown into one of the most prominent advocacy groups for Black gender-diverse people and a national connector for organizations across the country safeguarding the rights of transgender people. Leaders like Jaelynn reminds us of the importance of reflective leadership and that in order to tackle our society's most complex problems, we must always come back to the people most directly impacted. https://loom.ly/o_dQ2Hw

Five years ago, Jorge Gutierrez left his post as a nonprofit executive director in Oregon and crossed the Columbia River to take on a new role as one of the first program team members at our Washington-based foundation. As a Senior Program Officer at Inatai, Jorge has been instrumental in taking our work to the next level, including with his leadership of the Emerging Opportunities Fund. To celebrate his fifth anniversary as a grantmaker at Inatai, we asked him five questions about his time here: https://lnkd.in/eXDCuCfF

"I increasingly think Washington is the most beautiful state, though it's not a competition." -Rosa Gimson, Community Engagement Manager We don't need to ask Rosa twice about how she feels about our state! She shared with us this photo she took while making her way to Wenatchee recently. And we agree with her: Washington is an incredible place! Photo credit: Rosa Gimson #AroundWA

We took a listen to this episode of Community to Community Development's radio show, Community Voz, featuring Northwest Youth Services. While the team that hosts and produces the show is currently taking time away from the series to rest and reflect, we've been finding lots of keen insights with this and with other episodes. https://lnkd.in/gh2ZAsAz
