The Analog #90: Desktop Wire EDM & HDMI Espionage 🔹 Last Thursday, we hosted our second event in partnership with Summit Interconnect & Cofactr in San Francisco. Engineers and founders from Astranis Space Technologies, Zipline, Battery Ventures, and many more attended! To be notified first of future events, apply here. We're putting on a few more through 2024 in SF, LA, NY, Boston, Seattle, and other locations! 🔹 Lilium has signed a binding agreement with Saudia Group for the sale of 50 eVTOL(electric vertical takeoff and landing) jets, with an option to purchase an additional 50 jets. This deal makes Lilium the third eVTOL startup, alongside Joby Aviation and Eve Air Mobility, to receive an order from Saudi Arabia-based companies. 🔹 Joby Aviation is looking for a Lead Electronics Test Engineer in San Carlos, CA 🔹 We shared a schematic review checklist for firmware engineers. Memfault gives a unique personal example to each checklist item, building this resource to help firmware teams catch software/hardware interaction bugs earlier in the design cycle when they’re cheaper to fix. Hardware FYI reposted this
Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), Co-Founder at Cofactr | Helping electronic manufacturers accelerate their time to market.
Had a great time in SF last week! Cofactr sponsored a dinner with Hardware FYI! Absolutely amazing turnout. Thanks Mihir Shah and Benjamin Chia! I got to hang with Nino Hardin, visit some very exciting companies (customers and future customers!), and check out a little more of SF than I'd normally choose to (thanks to a little CrowdStrikeXMicrosoft Colab - merch coming soon, I'm sure). Inspiring to connect with new and old friends over great food, wine, and exciting ideas.
Yesterday, we hosted a Hardware FYI dinner in partnership with Cofactr and Summit Interconnect in SF. 30+ engineers/leaders/founders from Astranis Space Technologies, Tesla, Archer, Tonal, Monarch Tractor, Robust.AI, AllSpice, Battery Ventures, POP Manufacturing and more. Talked rad-hard IC lead forming, verticalized CNC machining, 6+ lam-cycle PCB manufacturing, and more. We're putting on a few more of these through the end of the year (NY/BOS/SF/LA/etc) -- click the link in the comments to apply and be notified of future events.

The Deep Tech Napkin is a framework developed by First Momentum Ventures for evaluating deep tech startups using five key factors: team, technology, market, business model, and impact. The full report has unique statistics about deep tech. Fore example, did you know that unit sales (one-time, non-recurring) are still the most common form of revenue vs IP licensing (50% of start-ups use unit sales!). Even more surprising only 30% have repeatable and “meaningful” revenue by Series A! This week we spoke with Zachariah Peterson, founder of Northwest Engineering Solutions. Northwest is a PCB design firm that also develops content about electronics engineering and PCB design. Zach began his career in academia however he moved to engineering consulting and quickly specialized into the PCB world, providing technical content for Altium since 2018. Zach was able to provide plenty of insight about the EDA industry, especially to startups who are seeking to disrupt the space: "If you're a new entrant and will take money from investors, then you need to realize that your exit will probably be via a sale to one of the legacy EDA companies. This will greatly influence the product you want to build and how it will be marketed." Check out our full interview below and thanks again to Zachariah for taking the time to speak with us! https://lnkd.in/eSVmQXMA
