Today's CEOs feel the pressure to provide evidence of innovation activity that drives results in their annual reports and speeches. The reality, unfortunately, is that little of this activity produces their desired ROI. Instead, innovation becomes theater, and executives aren't able to invest balance sheet capital to renew and refresh their businesses as efficiently as they would like. The good news is there's another (better) way. High Alpha Innovation CEO Elliott Parker shares actionable advice for leaders who want to drive true growth and transformation within their organizations, in this article for Fast Company: https://lnkd.in/eN35r_D7 #IllusionOfInnovation #CorporateInnovation #InnovatorsDilemma

Instead of containing those interesting, untapped ideas from within your organization, what if you explored their validity externally? Venture builders can act as the forcing function to keep corporate innovation programs moving full steam ahead. By embracing open innovation with an outside venture-building partner, corporations can implement a problem-led ideation approach that helps them identify issues they can address through startup creation. We’ve been hard at work the last 16 weeks preparing two concepts that have spun out of the studio in preparation for today: Pitch Day. This week was a culmination of dozens of interviews with experts in the retail value chain (specifically in the retail brokerage and CPG space), hundreds of hours of research and prototyping, and support from our friends and colleagues near and far as we look to launch our first company out of the studio this fall. A huge thank you to all who came out today to provide feedback and support! 💜 #venturebuilding #retailvaluechain Josh Stanley Matt Casanova Nick Wichert Lars Hamilton Lesa Mitchell Ryan Larcom Courtney Ulrich Smith Mason McClelland Rachel Levitt Maxwell von Doepp Casey Kelly Pérez Aaron Wilson Bri Suitt High Alpha Innovation

The NBA's adoption of the 3-point line in 1978 changed basketball forever. Players and coaches were hesitant to accept it at first. But the change eventually fostered more exciting, higher-scoring games. In fact, the last time an NBA team won without scoring a single 3-point shot was in 2016. Teams have since learned that mid-range shots don't pay. To win now, they know they must take more shots — and more strategically. The most successful companies today know that the best way to maximize returns and minimize risk is to run as many experiments as possible at the lowest possible cost per experiment. Writing for Built In, High Alpha Innovation CEO Elliott Parker explains how a high quantity *and* quality of "shots" is what helps scaled organizations truly innovate today: https://lnkd.in/gNMdREPd #IllusionOfInnovation
