  • I knew I had a pair of scissors in the table drawer next to my chair...but danged if I could find them. I went months opening packages with anything sharp I could find. On a cleaning rampage last weekend, I found them - in that drawer, but tucked so close to the side of the drawer, that they were out of sight. They had rust spots on them not from water, but simple non-use. It served as a great simile for goals and how we approach them. Like the scissors, when goals are out of sight, they're out of mind. They then get lost in the business of life, even though we thought they were so close to what we wanted. In essence, goals 'rust' when they aren't kept active every day. This is why New Year's resolutions are so short-lived - people make the goal, sometimes they write it down, and then it goes in a drawer never to be seen again. Write those goals down as specifically as you can - feel, see, and hear what it will be like when those goals are achieved. Look at them daily. Visualize. It's much easier to hit a target when it's crystal clear in front of your face!
