Empowering Black Creatives Through Access, Education, and Inclusion. KENNY GRAVILLIS is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Gravillis™, a Black-owned LA-based design company known for creating iconic movie posters such as Spike Lee’s "Blackkklansman," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Logan," and the original "Avatar." The percentage of Black students in art schools across the United States remains relatively low. Black student enrollment generally maxes out in the single digits, a trend consistent across the majority of elite art schools—highlighting ongoing challenges related to access and inclusion within art education, and reflecting broader societal inequities. In episode 3 of Simon Clowes' Object Subject Form, our KENNY GRAVILLIS discusses entrepreneurship while navigating diversity and inclusion within the Key Art Theatrical space. Kenny's conversation explores the experiences of being a Black creative and co-founder of a minority-owned business, and how Gravillis™ is focusing on education to provide more access to the industry for underserved communities. “Growing up, I developed a deep passion for illustration by drawing comics and watching anime and Tim Burton movies. Upon graduating from Otis College, I began a journey into the entertainment industry, crafting iconic movie posters and billboards that showcase my creative efforts. This example for the movie Air offers a glimpse into my meticulous process. It often goes unseen, the countless hours and unused work that goes into making a poster.” – Adan, Senior Lead Sketch Artist / Illustrator, GRAVILLIS INC. #work #illustration #sketchartist #design #keyart #employee #staff
