The mission of the Gándara Center is to promote the well being of Hispanics, African Americans, and other culturally diverse populations through innovative culturally competent behavioral health, prevention, and education services. EMPOWERMENT, INNOVATION, COMMUNITY Founded in 1977, Gándara Center provides the highest quality services to our clients and our community. We respect the dignity, promote the human and civil rights, and value the ethnic and cultural diversity of all people. Our performance outcomes and client satisfaction ratings demonstrate the critical importance of empowering people and families to be meaningfully involved in decisions related to their own lives and futures. The Latino Scholarship Fund works to provide scholarship opportunities for college-bound Latino(a) students in Western Massachusetts “I was overjoyed when I received the email… I’m honored to be able to help an organization bring joy to high school students and provide funds to go to college and begin their careers. “Kwanzaa 2023 begins on Tuesday, December 26, and lasts through Monday, January 1, 2024. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase 'matunda ya kwanza' which means 'first fruits' in Swahili. On each of the seven nights, the family gathers and a child lights one of the candles on the Kinara (candleholder), then one of the seven principles is discussed. The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa Umoja (Unity) Kujichagulia (Self-Determination) Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility) Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics) Nia (Purpose) Kuumba (Creativity) Imani (Faith) Kwanzaa also has seven basic symbols which represent values and concepts reflective of African culture. An African feast, called a Karamu, is held on December 31.”
